KETIKA berbicara tentang arti keselamatan, kita tidak lepas dari pandangan theolog, termasuk di sini John Wesley. Ada tiga teori klasik dari rumusan teori “atonement’, yaitu pendamaian antara Allah dan manusia melalui kematian Tuhan Yesus Kristus. Pertama, teori Penebusan, yaitu penebusan dari kuasa setan yang dikembangkan oleh Ireneus pada abad ke-2. Kedua, teori Kepuasan yang dikembangkan oleh Aselmus pada abad ke-11. Ketiga, teori Pengaruh Moral yang dikembangkan oleh Abelardus, filsuf dan teolog pada abad pertengahan. Pandangan John Wesley adalah gabungan ketiga teori tersebut. Pandangannya yang dibahas dalam buku ini dibagi menjadi empat bagian utama. Bagian pertama membahas dasar theologis keselamatan, baik yang ada dalam Perjanjian Lama maupun dalam Perjanjian baru. Bagian dua berisi uraian tentang keselamatan menurut John Wesley, yang menyangkut Anugerah Pendahuluan (Prevenient Grace), Anugerah Pembenaran (Justifying Grace), dan Anugerah Pengudusan (Sanctification). Bagian tiga berbicara tentang sarana manusia memperoleh dan masuk karya penyelamatan Allah dalam Yesus Kristus. Bagian akhir buku ini menyoroti bentuk aktualisasi keselamatan yang sudah diperoleh dalam kehidupan seseorang yang terwujud dalam sikap dan perilaku hidup bersama yang harmoni dengan sesama.
