Ao contrário de outras épocas passadas, onde as mudanças que ocorriam na sociedade eram pouco perceptíveis, neste novo século (XXI), que se iniciou em pouco menos de duas décadas, foram evidenciadas diversas mudanças significativas, as quais são responsáveis por alterações diversas nos moldes de vivência em sociedade. Estas alterações estão intimamente relacionadas aos avanços tecnológicos, em larga escala, que ocorreram nos últimos anos em todo o planeta. Não é possível deixar de lado o contexto de um novo conceito de sociedade, onde as competências, técnicas e habilidades desenvolvidas pelos seres humanos devem estar de acordo com o contexto social digital atual. Em outras palavras, a atual sociedade exige de seus cidadãos o domínio das Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação (TICs). Neste contexto, o profissional da educação passa a ter um papel preponderante na formação digital da atual sociedade. Com isso, os docentes devem ser capazes de dominar as tecnologias a fim de propor ações formativas eficazes e voltadas à integração de todos os cidadãos na "era digital". Nesta perspectiva, com o propósito de investigar a performance dos atuais docentes, desenvolveu-se a atual pesquisa voltada a examinar (a partir de visões diferentes) o contexto educacional aliado às novas tecnologias, ou seja, esta pesquisa foi desenvolvida na tentativa de vislumbrar o papel das novas tecnologias em meio aos processos de ensino-aprendizagem.
