En este libro se recogen los dos últimos volúmenes que escribiera en su Diario el jesuita Manuel Luengo; dos años que supusieron la anhelada restauración de su orden y el retorno a su patria, los dos objetivos que mantuvieron el ánimo de los jesuitas españoles desterrados por Carlos III de todos sus territorios en 1767. De aquellos más de cinco mil religiosos expulsados de América, Filipinas y el actual Estado español, sobrevivían una décima parte y en estas páginas leeremos un resumen de su larga y tormentosa subsistencia, de cómo vivieron el restablecimiento de la Compañía de Jesús en 1814 y las negociaciones para la recuperación de sus privilegios en la España de Fernando VII.

When Austrian soldiers first set foot in Lombardy-Venetia in October, 1813, they were greeted everywhere as liberators and friends. In the spring of 1815, when Joachim Murat's efforts to establish a united Italy ended in miserable failure and when the Habsburgs announced the main features of the regime they intended to establish in their Italian provinces, the Venetians were still strongly pro-Austrian, but considerable anti-Habsburg feeling had developed among the Lombards. This carefully documented study of the first two years of Austrian reoccupation of Lombardy-Venetia examines all aspects of the Habsburg provisional regimes and draws some conclusions about the reasons for the different attitudes in the two provinces. In detailed sketches of the provisional governments of Venetia (Chapter I) and Lombardy (Chapter II) and an examination of Austrian economic policies and practices in both provinces (Chapter III), the author shows that although the governments of the two provinces shared many common traits, they differed in a number of significant ways. Actually, Venetia was much less efficiently governed than Lombardy; and the Lombards enjoyed at least a small measure of self-administration that was largely denied the Venetians. The Lombards were much more prosperous than their neighbors, yet they paid much less in taxes and were exempt from most of the burdensome military requisitions that the Austrians inflicted on the Venetians. In spite of these advantages, the relatively small nationalist movement in Austria's Italian provinces was almost entirely confined to Lombardy. The author examines public opinion in Lombardy-Venetia about liberal intrigues (Chapter IV); the relationship of secret societies to liberalism (Chapter V); the Brescian-Milanese conspiracy (Chapter VI) and the Austrian handling of that affair (Chapter VII); and the fiasco of Joachim Murat's "War of Italian Independence" (Chapter VIII).

«Para auxiliar a los dependientes de justicia en la ejecución de la pena de muerte en horca, a la que por la sala primera de señores alcaldes de la Real Casa y Corte ha sido sentenciado D. Antonio Miyar por conspirador contra los derechos de S.M., y que después de ejecutada se le ponga pendido del cuello un cartel que diga Por revolucionario; cuya ejecución lo será en el paraje acostumbrado a las doce en punto de la mañana. A dicho efecto se hallarán en la plazuela de la Cebada a las once y media de la misma dos piquetes, el uno del segundo regimiento de granaderos de la Guardia Real de infantería de 200 hombres con sus correspondientes oficiales, y por otro de granaderos a caballo de la misma Guardia Real de 100 hombres montados con el número de oficiales que le pertenece. A la misma hora se hallará en la real cárcel de Corte otro de un oficial con un sargento, un cabo y 20 granaderos del segundo regimiento expresado, cuyo comandante a su llegada a ella se presentará al señor gobernador de la Sala a recibir sus instrucciones; y después de ejecutada la justicia dejará de esta fuerza el sargento con el cabo y 10 granaderos para custodia del cadáver hasta que la Paz y Caridad lo recoja; también a la propia hora de las once y media y sitio de la expresada real cárcel se hallará otro piquete de un sargento, un cabo y 10 soldados montados del escuadrón de Madrid para tener expedita la carrera que el reo hubiere de llevar. Finalmente, para que en lo más mínimo se altere la tranquilidad pública se nombrarán tres partidas del regimiento de granaderos a caballo, cada una de la fuerza de un oficial, un sargento, un cabo y 22 granaderos, que se situarán a la misma hora de las once y medio en la plazuela de Sta. Cruz, Plaza mayor junto al arco de Toledo y plazuela de S. Andrés, y otras tantas de infantería de igual número del propio regimiento, con el objeto de que recorran las calles inmediatas a las por donde debe ser conducido el reo. Todas las tropas nombradas, excepto la que queda de custodia para el cadáver, se retirarán a sus cuarteles después de ejecutada la justicia, y que la gente que concurra a ella se haya retirado de la plazuela de la Cebada y sus inmediaciones».
