The Poetics Of Plants In Spanish American Literature written by Lesley Wylie and has been published by University of Pittsburgh Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-12-08 with Literary Criticism categories.

The Poetics of Plants in Spanish American Literature examines the defining role of plants in cultural expression across Latin America, particularly in literature. From the colonial georgic to Pablo Neruda’s Canto general, Lesley Wylie’s close study of botanical imagery demonstrates the fundamental role of the natural world and the relationship between people and plants in the region. Plants are also central to literary forms originating in the Americas, such as the New World Baroque, described by Alejo Carpentier as “nacido de árboles.” The book establishes how vegetal imaginaries are key to Spanish American attempts to renovate European forms and traditions as well as to the reconfiguration of the relationship between humans and nonhumans. Such a reconfiguration, which persistently draws on indigenous animist ontologies to blur the boundaries between people and plants, anticipates much contemporary ecological thinking about our responsibility towards nonhuman nature and shows how environmental thinking by way of plants has a long history in Latin American literature.

It has been said that to write is to avoid the death of desire. Psychoanalysts see desire as life’s driving force. In this book, Sonia Vieira demonstrates poetically that, with this force, limits of the body can be overcame and the spiritual being immortalized through history. Moreover, simplicity and firmness are both present, even when ideas are opposed and behavior condemned. A book that makes think.

Born in Nicaragua, Rubén Darío is known as the consummate leader of the Modernista movement, an esthetic trend that swept the Americas from Mexico to Argentina at the end of the nineteenth century. Seeking a language and a style that would distinguish the newly emergent nations from the old imperial power of Spain, Darío’s writing offered a refreshingly new vision of the world—an artistic sensibility at once cosmopolitan and connected to the rhythms of nature. The first part of this collection presents Darío’s most significant poems in a bilingual format and organized thematically in the way Darío himself envisioned them. The second part is devoted to Darío’s prose, including short stories, fables, profiles, travel writing, reportage, opinion pieces, and letters. A sweeping biographical introduction by distinguished critic Ilan Stavans places Darío in historical and artistic context, not only in Latin America but in world literature. For more than seventy years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world. With more than 1,700 titles, Penguin Classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines. Readers trust the series to provide authoritative texts enhanced by introductions and notes by distinguished scholars and contemporary authors, as well as up-to-date translations by award-winning translators.

'You have dark eyes. Gleams there that promise darkness'. Spanish poetry is astonishing in its richness and variety. This anthology covers the two great flowerings of Spanish verse: the first, which lasted to the end of the seventeenth century, and second, from the mid-nineteenth century through the Spanish Civil War, to the present. This third edition has been revised to represent more fully the poetry of resistance that emerged during the Franco years, giving more space to older poets such as Jorge Guillén and the great survivor of the Lorca generation and Nobel Prize winner Vicente Aleixandre, as well as a number of more contemporary poets who have forged a new era in Spanish poetry. This edition also includes an introduction discussing the history and world significance of Spanish poetry. 'No body of lyrical poetry is so seriously under-estimated by British readers as the Spanish' - J. M. Cohen. This book is translated and edited with an introduction by J. M. Cohen.

Los Esccritos Escondidos De Una Emperatriz written by Emperatriz Sanclemente Saavedra and has been published by Palibrio this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-05 with Poetry categories.
