Dies Werk wird es sich zur Aufgabe setzen, vor allem den Be ziehungen der wissenschaftlichen Ethik zu dem allgemeinen ethischen Denken der Griechen nachzugehen. Dabei wird insbesondere auch die vorsokratische Zeit ausführlich zu behandeln sein, in der die wichtigsten ethischen Gedankenrichtungen, die in den späteren Systemen eine Rolle spielen sollten, bereits ausgebildet oder doch vorbereitet sind. Dem entspricht die Behandlung des Intellektualismus in der vorliegenden Arbeit. Die Anfänge des Intellektualismus sind in dem ersten Kapitel ausfuhrlich dargele> im zweiten Kapitel durfte da gegen die Weiterentwicklung in der wissenschaftlichen Ethik kürzer ausgeführt werden. Denn hier sollte nicht eine vollständige Dar stellung des Intellektualismus der ethischen Systeme gegeben, sondern nur gezeigt werden, wie die verschiedenen, bis zu ihren Quellen zurück verfolgten intellektualistischen Strömungen auch die Systeme be herrscht und durch das stärkere Hervortreten bald mehr der einen, bald mehr der anderen Richtung ihren Charakter wechselnd bestimmt haben.
