Das Vierte Evangelium Aus Sicht Der Semitischen Sprachen written by Clemens Wassermann and has been published by Evangelische Verlagsanstalt this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-01-31 with Religion categories.

[The Fourth Gospel from the Point of View of the Semitic Languages. A Linguistic Contribution to the Clarification of the Johannine Question] This book investigates the influence of Semitic languages in the fourth Gospel. For the first time Arabic and Aramaic dialects from the western Levant region were taken into account in order to better identify colloquial features within the Semitisms of the fourth Gospel. Based on a thorough investigation of 54 Semitic transliterations and 704 Semitic syntagms, the former consensus, namely that Hebrew was only an artificial literary and/or scholarly language in the time of Jesus, whereas Aramaic was the daily colloquial language, is questioned. In particular, the frequent use of anti-/synthetical Hebraisms, which stand closely in line with the Old Testament book of Proverbs and to a lesser extend also with Ben Sira, favour an early dating and Judean provenance of the fourth Gospel. Through the employment of recent sources from Qumran and the Judean Desert as well as the incorporation of electronic syntax databases, a more precise and refined picture of Semitisms in the fourth Gospel is traced than in previous studies.

Gnosis Und Sp Tantike Religionsgeschichte written by Rudolph and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-10-26 with Religion categories.

A collection of 40 or so of the author's essays and contributions to the study of Gnosis, the Mandaeans and Manichaeism, published in the course of the past 40 years. Most have been revised for this new edition. Subjects treated include on the one hand source problems (Nag Hammadi, Manichaean finds and texts, Mandaean manuscripts), and on the other hand the situating of the gnostic-cum-Manichaean tradition in the context of late-antique religious history, especially with regard to the early Christian Church and its environment. Contributions on the history of research set out the issues and problems that have arisen from the study of these texts. Particular attention is given to the new finds from Nag Hammadi, which have proved highly significant for a new picture of Gnosis and Manichaeism. The author, who is especially well known for his work of Mandaica, has incorporated this aspect of Gnosis in the overall picture.

The volume brings together an international array of scholars, each a leading specialist in ancient language study. While designed primarily for scholars and students of linguistics, this work will prove invaluable to all whose studies take them into the realm of ancient language.

Disputed Temple written by John Robert Barker and has been published by Fortress Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-15 with Religion categories.

John Robert Barker uses rhetorical criticism of Haggai to tease out the probable attitudes and anxieties among the Yehudite community that saw rebuilding as both undesirable and unfeasible. While some in the community accepted the prophet‘s claim that YHWH wanted the temple built, others feared that adverse agricultural and economic conditions, as well as the lack of a royal builder, were clear signs that YHWH did not approve or authorize the effort. Haggai‘s counterarguments are combined with his vilification of opponents as unclean and non-Israelite.

Aramaic In Its Historical And Linguistic Setting written by Holger Gzella and has been published by Otto Harrassowitz Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Aramaic language categories.

This volume contains contributions by W. Arnold, S.E. Fassberg, M.L. Folmer, W.R. Garr, A. Gianto, H. Gzella, J.F. Healey, O. Jastrow, J. Joosten, O. Kapeliuk, S.A. Kaufman, G. Khan, R. Kuty, A. Lemaire, E. Lipinski, H.L. Murre-van den Berg, C. Morrison, N. Pat-El, W.Th. van Peursen, and A. Tal. They discuss central issues of Aramaic linguistics in the light of the most recent research: editions of primary source material; extensive historical and linguistic overviews on matters of classification and language change; detailed studies of grammatical and lexical topics analyzing data from different Aramaic languages, for instance determination and tense-aspect-modality systems. Several papers closely interact with each other. As a whole, they bridge the gap between ancient and modern forms of Aramaic by providing a more comprehensive approach to this language group and its attested history of three millennia. Thanks to a sharp thematic focus, wide-ranging discussions of a great amount of material, and up-to-date theoretical frameworks, these proceedings can also act as a modern handbook of Aramaic in all its complexity. All articles are thematically arranged, fully indexed and cross-referenced.
