Um dies zu versuchen, möchte ich zuerst auf die Konflikte innerhalb der Arbeiterbewegung während der Weimarer Republik und die Sozialfaschismusthese eingehen, die einen tiefen Einschnitt in diesem Prozess markiert. Danach soll der Weg der nun im Alleingang stehenden SPD in die Illegalität und die Bildung linker Zwischengruppen dargestellt werden. Um ein Beispiel für den sozialistischen Widerstand zu geben, habe ich mich für die „Sozialistische Front“ aus Hannover entschieden, die in den Anfangsjahren des NS-Regimes aktiv war. Anhand dieser Betrachtung soll abschließend eine Antwort auf die Frage gefunden werden, ob man somit von einem „Doppelten Versagen“ der Arbeiterbewegung sprechen kann.
