Excerpt from Die Bedeutung des Mendelismus F Landwirtschaftliche Tierzucht Im allgemeinen ist es ublich dass der Verfasser sagt fur wen er sein Buch geschrieben hat. Ich mochte mich diesmal, um nicht falsch verstanden zu werden, nicht an diese Gewohnheit halten. Ich habe meine Arbeit nicht geschrieben in der Absicht, der praktischen Haustierzucht direkt von grossem Nutzen zu sein, sondern stellte sie fur diejenigen zusammen, die sich durch die grossen Lehrbucher: Johannsens Elemente der exakten Erblichkeitslehre, Baurs Experimentelle Vererbungslehre u.a. uber den Stand der neueren Vererbungslehre bereits unterrichtet haben. Mein Buchelchen kann vielleicht die Brucke bilden, die von der Theorie der Vererbungslehre zur praktischen Anwendung derselben und zu mancherlei Massregeln fuhrt. Fur vieles ist auf diesem Gebiet noch keine Erklarung gefunden und eine strenge Anwendung der mendelistischen Theorien mochte in der Haustierzucht auch wohl kaum moglich sein, jedoch lasst sich manches aus ihnen ableiten, das uns eine klarere Einsicht fur die Verbesserung unsrer landwirtschaftlichen Haustiere gibt. Ich hoffe, dass nach mir noch viele andere dieser Frage naher treten und dadurch nicht nur die Theorien des Mendelismus verbreiten helfen, sondern zugleich auch zum Entwurf einer Zuchtungslehre beitragen werden, die fur die Haustierzucht von grosser Bedeutung sein kann.
