All dies ist beschreibend für Frieda von Bülow. Eine Frau, die sich seit Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts aus den begrenzten Handlungsspielräumen für Frauen mehr Freiheiten erkämpfte und die sich aufopfernd der „nationalen Sache“, den Kolonien, widmete. Sie war einst eine in der Öffentlichkeit sehr bekannte und gefeierte Schriftstellerin und gilt als Begründerin der deutschen Kolonialliteratur. Heute jedoch findet man ihren Namen nicht einmal mehr in den Nachschlagewerken. Und das, obwohl sie 1886 eine der BegründerInnen der Evangelischen Frauenmission für Deutsch-Ostafrika sowie des Deutsch-nationalen Frauenbunds zur Krankenpflege in den Kolonien war. Zwei von zahlreichen Vereinigungen, die zur Unterstützung des deutschen Projekts, den Kolonien in Afrika, gegründet wurden.
