Ellipsen sind in der modernen Linguistik Gegenstand verschiedener linguistischer Disziplinen: Während sich die Psycholinguistik für Vorgänge des Produzierens und Verarbeitens von Ellipsen interessiert, beschäftigt sich die Grammatikforschung mit dem Äußerungsprodukt Ellipse. Hinzu kommt die sprachphilosophische Frage nach dem Status der Ellipse überhaupt. Der Schwerpunkt des Sammelbandes liegt auf einer integrativen Betrachtung von grammatischen und verarbeitungsbezogenen Fragestellungen. Dieser Schwerpunktsetzung liegt die Hypothese zugrunde, dass das Phänomen ‚Ellipse’ den Paradefall für den Versuch der Engführung von grammatischen und psycholinguistischen Ansätzen bildet. Eine solche Aufeinanderbeziehbarkeit manifestiert sich im Band u.a. an dem sowohl grammatiktheoretisch als auch psycholinguistisch begründeten Perspektivwechsel vom Ausgelassenen zum Realisierten. Der Band bietet neben einem Perspektivwechsel innerhalb des Kernbereichs der Ellipsenbetrachtung auch neue Perspektiven auf das Phänomen Ellipse, wie etwa die der Interaktionalen Linguistik und der Computerlinguistik.
