Secondary Education for All cannot be considered independently from the life and career of its author, R. H. Tawney. Written in 1922 in time for the general election, it is the Labour party's first major statement on adolescent education. It reflects the historical insights and ardent political convictions of an economic historian turned socialist, and helped to bring the issue of education reform from the periphery of politics to a more central position. Through the introduction of free secondary education for all, Tawney hoped to rid education of class inequality over a generation. This is a classic and influential text which acted as a springboard for educational advance which reflects the growing educational and political debate of 1920s Britain.

Situated Cognition written by David Kirshner and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-12-16 with Psychology categories.

This book is a result of a symposium at a recent annual meeting of the American Educational Research Association that explored foundational issues relative to situated cognition theory. Its chapters contribute to discourse about repositioning situated cognition theory within the broader supporting disciplines and to resolving the problematics addressed within the book. There is a cumulative vision to the book -- its theme is that the notion of the individual in situated cognition theory needs to be fundamentally reformulated. No theoretical reconfiguration of the social world or of social practices can overcome an individual cast in the dualist tradition. This reformulation probes the physiological, psychoanalytic, and semiotic constitution of persons. Chapters authors cover a wide range of topics including: * transfer of training -- arguing that traditional cognitive psychology has found precious little evidence of people's ability to apply knowledge gained in one context to the problems encountered in another; * ecosocial systems -- a new object of inquiry for situated cognition theory in which the primary units of analysis are not things or people, but processes and practices; * how linkages between discursive practices are manifested as semiotic chaining of signifiers for individuals engaged in everyday activities at home or at school; * how the ability to function in ways that are consistent with logic emerges not through reflective abstraction on actions, but through an enhanced sense of agency as more responsible roles are adopted in daily life practices; * the mutual constitution of social and individual knowledge -- familiar terms and concepts normally available through linguistic labels are cultural models, to be distinguished from the variegated and hidden mid-level meanings that reflect their situated uses in social activity; * the material (neurological) substrate through which cultural models and mid-level meanings emerge; and * how learning environments can be structured to take advantage of the perceptual underpinnings of cognition.

Kurt Hahn S Schools And Legacy written by Martin Flavin and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996 with Education categories.

The impact that one of this century's most creative educators had on nearly 4 million girls and boys is chronicled here. For over 75 years up to this present day, Hahn's schools have enrolled students world-wide including such notables as England's Prince Charles and Prince Philip. Though it is his famous Outward Bound program that has received such international recognition, Hahn's tenets of teaching formulated so many years ago still are proving valid today. Surviving in the wilderness and surviving in a complex society requires similar basic character traits. The author, himself a Hahn's school alumnus, presents the life of his subject in an intriguing manner. The book will hopefully shed more light on a man about whom even many of his current students know so little. And Mr. Flavin can be even more illuminating via a telephone interview. His observations are insightful, witty and poignant in recalling the life of Kurt Hahn.
