'My father and I head towards a nervous breakdown as he attempts to erase three years of Communist indoctrination in the course of a single evening. I simply cannot comprehend that Lenin, the friend of all children, is now allegedly an arsehole.' When seven-year-old Mischka and her family flee the oppressive USSR for the freedom of Vienna, her world seems to divide neatly in two: there's life as she knew it before, and life as she must relearn it now. But even as she's busy dressing her new Barbie, perfecting her German and gorging on fresh fruit, Mischka is aware that there's part of her that can never escape her homeland, with its terrifying folktales, its insidious anti-Semitism and its old family secrets. As her parents' marriage splinters and her sister retreats into silence, Mischka has to find her own way of living when her head and her heart are in two places at once. There is darkness galore in this novel. But there is also much comedy to be had in its twisted enchanted tales. It is as seductive and unsettling as similar work by Angela Carter or Margaret Atwood, while it shares a geography with Everything Is Illuminated and If I Told You Once.

Narcissus and Goldmund is the story of a passionate yet uneasy friendship between two men of opposite character. Narcissus, an ascetic instructor at a cloister school, has devoted himself solely to scholarly and spiritual pursuits. One of his students is the sensual, restless Goldmund, who is immediately drawn to his teacher's fierce intellect and sense of discipline. When Narcissus persuades the young student that he is not meant for a life of self-denial, Goldmund sets off in pursuit of aesthetic and physical pleasures, a path that leads him to a final, unexpected reunion with Narcissus.

Philosophical And Spiritual Perspectives On Decent Work written by Dominique Peccoud and has been published by International Labour Organization this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with Employment (Economic theory) categories.

This volume reflects on the values behind the ILO's Decent Work Agenda and provides a forum for contributors from various humanistic, philosophical, spiritual and religious traditions to express their views on the significance of work at all levels of society, from the individual person to the global community. Common, universal values are explored, as well as differences, in order to shed more light on the concept of decent work. In all societies, there is an ethical dimension to work, connected to the rights and entitlements of those who perform it. This also includes spiritual value such as dignity, personal identity, a sense of purpose in life, the "divine call to work" and so on. In this book, contributors - from the Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Confucian, and various secular traditions - come together to exchange comments and reflections on the "floor" of decency as defined by the ILO: freedom of association, eradication of forced and compulsory labour, abolition of child labour and elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation. It is hoped that this type of approach will be inspiring. Before embarking on major international strategic papers, legal instruments and public policies, the systematic consultation of an interfaith and humanistic forum would enable cultural and religious views to be taken into consideration. In this way such instruments would be anchored in shared values and not influenced by any one dominant conception of human existence in the world.

An English Translation Of Bachofen S Mutterecht Mother Right 1861 written by Johann Jakob Bachofen and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003 with History categories.

Mother Right (1861) by Johann Jakob Bachofen (1815-1887) was the seminal document of the nineteenth century concerning the role of women in ancient societies. The meaning of “mother” as the one who bears life, then cares for her child with selfless love, devotion, and sacrifice clearly imparts Bachofen's point of departure. In this sense, Mother Right is a celebration of motherhood as the origin of human society, religion, morality, and decency. Volume two contains sections on “Lemnos” and “Egypt”.

Motherhood And Representation written by E. Ann Kaplan and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-07-23 with Literary Criticism categories.

From novels of the nineteenth century to films of the 1990s, American culture, abounds with images of white, middle-class mothers. In Motherhood and Representation, E. Ann Kaplan considers how the mother appears in three related spheres: the historical, in which she charts changing representations of the mother from 1830 to the postmodernist present; the psychoanalytic, which discusses theories of the mother from Freud to Lacan and the French Feminists; and the mother as she is figured in cultural representations: in literary and film texts such as East Lynne, Marnie and the The Handmaid's Tale, as well as in journalism and popular manuals on motherhood. Kaplan's analysis identifies two dominant paradigms of the mother as `Angel' and `Witch', and charts the contesting and often contradictory discourses of the mother in present-day America.

Spontaneous Activity In Education written by Maria Montessori and has been published by Montessori Helper this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-07-02 with Education categories.

The Montessori Method represents an explicit idealism and turn away from war and violence toward peace and reconstruction. It is built on coherent visions of how to improve human society by helping children realize their full potential as intelligent, creative, whole persons. In the Montessori Method, children are viewed as active authors of their own development, strongly influenced by natural, dynamic, self-righting forces within themselves, opening the way toward growth and learning. Teachers depend for their work with children on carefully prepared, aesthetically pleasing environments that serve as a pedagogical tool and provide strong messages about the curriculum and about respect for children. Partnering with parents is highly valued in the Montessori Method, and children are evaluated by means other than traditional tests and grades.

On the Psychology of the Dementia Praecox (über die Psychologie der Demerrtia praecox) is an early work by Jung during his clinical days. This work focused on what was then called "dementia praecox," a term coined by Emil Kraepelin that later evolved into what we now know as schizophrenia. This edition is a new 2023 translation from the original German manuscript with an Afterword by the Translator, a philosophic index of Jung's terminology and a timeline of his life and works.
