Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2018 im Fachbereich Geschichte Deutschlands - Erster Weltkrieg, Weimarer Republik, Note: 2,7, Universität Stuttgart, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In dieser Hausarbeit wird sich mit der Kontroverse befasst, ob Deutschland den Ersten Weltkrieg, mit der Absicht an die Weltmacht zu gelangen, auslösen wollte. Zu Beginn wird auf die traditionelle Sichtweise der Forschung eingegangen und aufgezeigt, wie die Geschichtswissenschaft den Kriegsausbruch 1914 aus deutscher Sicht auffasste und in welchem Zusammenhang der Zweite Weltkrieg dabei steht. Davon ausgehend wird sich im folgenden Kapitel mit den Hauptthesen von Fritz Fischer auseinandergesetzt, wobei auf seine zwei kritischen Werke "Griff nach der Weltmacht "und "Krieg der Illusionen" eingegangen wird, aber auch auf Aufsätze wie "Vom Zaun gebrochen – nicht hineingeschlittert" und "Deutsche Kriegsziele. Revolutionierung und Separatfrieden im Osten 1914-1918". Zum Schluss wird ein Ausblick auf die Auswirkungen seiner Forschung gegeben, in welchem auf die Fischer-Kontroverse eingegangen wird. Genau vor 100 Jahren fand nach der Kapitulation des Deutschen Reichs im Ersten Weltkrieg, die Pariser Friedenskonferenz im Schloss von Versailles statt, welche den Friedensvertrag von Versailles hervorbrachte. Im Artikel 231, auch genannt der Kriegsschuldartikel, sprachen die Alliierten den Deutschen zu "dass Deutschland und seine Verbündeten als Urheber aller Verluste und aller Schäden verantwortlich sind (...)". Das deutsche Volk reagierte völlig empört und wehrte sich gegen solche Anschuldigungen, insbesondere die Geschichtswissenschaft wollte aufzeigen, dass Deutschland nicht die Alleinschuld dafür trug und ihr Handeln auf einer rein apologetischen Haltung beruht. Diese Auffassung etablierte sich bis in die 60er Jahren. Als schließlich ein Hamburger Historiker, Fritz Fischer, sein Buch Griff nach der Weltmacht veröffentlichte, zog dieses eine hitzige Nachkriegskontroverse nach sich, welche auch einen starken Einfluss auf die Bundesrepublik Deutschland hatte. In seinem Werk sah er das Deutsche Reich als Hauptverantwortlichen, da es mit seiner Kriegszielpolitik bewusst Krieg auslösen wollte, um damit an die Weltmacht zu gelangen.
