Begründung der mehrseitigen Aufgabe der Freilufterziehung Dem Schulkind eine gesunde Lebensführung zu ermöglichen, gehört heute zu den schwierigsten Problemen nicht nur der Großstadt. Auch das Kind, das in kleinen Städten und auf dem Lande aufwächst, muß weitgehend die wichtigsten Faktoren seines Gedeihens, Licht, Luft und körperliche Bewegung, entbehren. Die Städte planer bemühen sich, dem Kinde angemessenes Spielfeld zu schaffen. In der V olks schule gewinnen die Bestrebungen, die sich für die »Freilufterziehung« des Kindes einsetzen, immer mehr Raum. Hierbei handelt es sich darum, dem Kind in der Schule selbst einmal einen Ausgleich gegen die möglichen Schäden langen Sitzens, verbrauchter Luft und Hemmung des kindlichen Bewegungstriebes zu schaffen, zum andern durch den Aufenthalt im Freien, die Gewöhnung an frische Luft und die Erziehung zu gesunder Lebensführung der jungen Generation Hilfen zu geben. Seit 1918 hat die »Deutsche Gesellschaft für Freilufterziehung und Schulgesund heitspflege« bzw. ihr Vorgänger die Bemühungen auf diesem Gebiete, die mit der Gründung der Waldschule Charlottenburg ihren Anfang nahmen, im In-und Aus lande verfolgt, eigene Erhebungen und praktische Schulversuche zur Klärung dieses Fragenkomplexes durchgeführt und die einschlägige Literatur zusammen getragen. Um einen Überblick über das bisher Erreichte zu gewinnen, Schwierigkeiten menschlicher und sachlicher Art, die der Verwirklichung einer umfassenden Frei lufterziehung entgegenstehen, aufzudecken und Vorschläge zu ihrer wirksamen Durchführung zu erarbeiten, wurde der Deutschen Gesellschaft ein entspre chender Forschungsauftrag erteilt. Zur Lösung dieser Aufgabe stellte die Deutsche Gesellschaft zunächst einen Frage bogen auf, der alle wesentlichen Probleme der Freilufterziehung berücksichtigt.
