So mag das Thema auf den ersten Blick erscheinen. Sicherlich gibt es auch die „nur“ großartige Kinder- und Jugendliteratur oder aber auch die „nur“ unwirkliche Kinder- und Jugendliteratur. Im Folgenden aber soll der Begriff der phantastischen Kinderund Jugendliteratur etwas weiter gefasst und betrachtet werden. Im ersten Teil dieses Referats wurde realistische und die problemorientierte KJL vorgestellt, dieser Teil nun soll den mindestens genauso wichtigen Teil der phantastischen Literatur für Kinder im Sinne von „unwirklich“ abdecken. An Aktualität hat diese Gattung sicherlich nicht verloren, gerade wenn man die nicht enden wollende Begeisterung der Kinder, Jugendlichen UND Erwachsenen beispielsweise für einen Jungen namens „Harry Potter“ betrachtet- tummeln sich doch die Bücher nun schon seit Wochen auf den Bestseller- Listen. Doch gibt es noch ganz andere, nebenbei schon wesentlich ältere Beispiele für phantastische Kinder- und Jugendliteratur. Ferner lässt sich in der Fachliteratur eine ganze Bandbreite von Definitionen dieser Gattung ( oder auch „Nicht“- Gattung, wie sich bald herausstellen wird ) finden, differieren doch Wissenschaftler in ihrer Merkmalsbeschreibung eindeutig auseinander.
