How did the written word serve as an authoritative source in the ancient world? What does it mean that some works became so popular as to merit dedicated interpretive commentaries? And does any direct relationship exist between the various methods of interpretation and styles of composition in these commentaries? The present work sets out to provide some solid answers to such questions. At the heart of this book stands a comparative analysis of ancient cuneiform commentary texts from mid-to-late first millennium Mesopotamia and early Jewish commentaries—known as pesharim—from the turn of the common era found in caves near Khirbet Qumran. Though some aspects of Mesopotamian hermeneutics may have influenced Jewish exegesis, likely through Jewish Aramaic scribes, the actual Mesopotamian practice of composing commentary texts exerted little-to-no influence on the compositional techniques of the pesharim. Nevertheless, many textual difficulties in the Qumran pesharim can be explained as the result of an accretion of interpretations over an extended period of time—a practice detailed in the textual record of the Mesopotamian commentaries. What is more, these commentaries reveal important evidence about both the way in which and the extent to which such works functioned as authoritative sources. As a result, this book advocates a shift away from discussing textual authority in simple binary terms, both in ancient and modern contexts, to functional descriptions of literary authority.

This book treats the life and works of the American biblical scholar John Knox (1900-1990). Utilizing Knox's own autobiographical works and having obtained previously unpublished materials from those closest to Knox, the author re-presents Knox as possibly the most neglected New Testament writer working in America during the twentieth century. By thorough analysis and development of Knox's scholarly contributions concerning a range of topics drawn from New Testament studies and ancient Church history, the author concludes that Knox was a man ahead of his time and, furthermore, that modern readers will find in him a nearly prophetic voice from the past.

Sebastian Moenninghoff provides an extensive overview of the status of the ‘Too-Big-to-Fail’ doctrine post-crisis and develops the first comprehensive framework to categorize and discuss the full range of major policy options for regulating banks. Governments need to actively manage their exposure to banking system risk with the optimal policy mix depending on risk return preferences of a society and an economy’s institutional setting. The new regulation for global systemically important banks developed by international regulators following the financial crisis is a significant step in expanding the tools to manage government exposure to banking system risk.

This study examines how the process of Christian initiation is catechetically and pastorally practised currently in the Catholic Diocese of Masaka, Uganda. It integrates the author's pastoral experience in the Diocese with relevant literature in order to examine Solemn Communion. It argues that the catechetical course known as Mugigi, which the missionary White Fathers mostly originally hailing from France introduced into the area of present-day Masaka Diocese circa 1906 and became correlated with the reception of Solemn Communion, would benefit from the indigenous education in the Buganda kingdom, not to mention the Bugandan traditional religious worldview. It concludes that such cultural elements would not only profit the inculturation process but would also inform the concept of Christian initiation.

Social Inequality And Interreligious Learning written by Alexander Unser and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on with Education categories.

Interreligious learning is viewed as a key educational task today. Increasing religious plurality in our societies and associated risks of societal tensions and conflicts necessitate that students deal at school with other religions, their belief systems, and the social reality of those who believe in them. Although several international studies have shown that some categories of students are at risk to be disadvantaged at school because of social inequality, this problem is currently not considered in theories of interreligious learning. Therefore, the present study investigates whether or not categories of students are disadvantaged in interreligious learning. In addition to theological and pedagogical insights about the problem of social inequality, this book presents an empirically validated action-theoretical model which helps to understand why some students have better or worse opportunities in interreligious learning. The action-theoretical model further proposes strategies to address unequal learning conditions in interreligious learning.

Institutional Congruence written by David Christoph Ehmke and has been published by Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019 with Bankruptcy categories.

What is the foundation of solid financial architecture? How is it possible to prevent a constant increase in taxes, debts and the misallocation of financial resources? The theory of institutional congruence provides a clear answer: The circles of decision makers, beneficiaries and payers must overlap to the greatest possible extent. This requires the consistent institutional centralisation or decentralisation of power and responsibilities regarding taxes, expenditure and debts. This study's analysis of sovereign and subnational public entities in the eurozone, Germany, France, Canada, the USA and Switzerland as well as of debt crises among autonomous sovereign debtors shows how the implementation of institutional congruence works in practice.
