Daneben wird der Frage nachgegangen, welche Ziele die deutsche Berichterstattung sowohl in der Heimat als auch in den besetzten Gebieten verfolgte. Eine zentrale Quelle bildet in diesen Zusammenhang die Zeitschrift „Signal“. Ausgewählte Berichte sollen daher herangezogen werden, um Differenzen in der Wahrnehmung des Krieges aufzuklären: Welche stereotypischen Vorstellungen vom britischen Feind sind erkennbar? Warum erfolgte eine deutliche negative Beschreibung der britischen Expeditionsstreitkräfte und eine leichte Aufwertung griechischer Soldatenleistungen im Kampf mit den Achsenmächten? Ein weiterer Punkt in der vorliegenden Arbeit ist die Erfassung der Textintention – Was beabsichtigte die deutsche Berichterstattung bei einem (vorwiegend deutschen) Lesepublikum und über welche sprachlichen Gestaltungsmittel wurden jene Ziele realisiert? In der Forschung spielt das Thema von Propaganda und ihrer Wirkung schon längere Zeit eine wichtige Rolle. Einzeluntersuchungen zum europäischen Ausland und insbesondere Griechenland sind jedoch erst in den letzten Jahren erschienen. Einen Überblick zur Beliebtheit der griechischen Antike und ihrer propagandistischen Verarbeitung gibt Denker in seiner Abhandlung. Kritisch wird das gesamte literarische Spektrum in Hinblick auf eine (romantisierende) Griechenlanddarstellung untersucht. Wie die allgemeine Besatzungspolitik der Deutschen in Griechenland organisierte und funktionierte, wird sehr anschaulich bei Eckert dargestellt, der die Geschichte der Hellas seit Mitte der Dreißiger Jahre bis zum Ende des zweiten Weltkrieges vorstellt. Eine intensivere und sehr aktuelle Auseinandersetzung mit der Europapropaganda in der Zeitschrift `Signal` findet sich auch bei Rutz, der in seinen Ausführungen den Balkanfeldzug und dessen zeitgenössischer Berichterstattung näher beleuchtet. Das Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit ist es, unter Zuhilfenahme aktueller Sekundärliteratur, die Wirkung der vorgestellten Texte auf ein europäisches, aber vor allem deutschsprachiges Lesepublikum zu untersuchen. Am Ende der Darstellung werden die Analyseergebnisse noch einmal aufgegriffen und anschließend in einem Schlusskapitel kritisch besprochen.

This is the first book to apply the concept of ‘contents tourism’ in a global context and to establish an international and interdisciplinary framework for contents tourism research. The term ‘contents tourism’ gained official recognition in Japan when it was defined by the Japanese government in 2005, and it has been characterised as ‘travel behaviour motivated fully or partially by narratives, characters, locations, and other creative elements of popular culture forms including film, television dramas, manga, anime, novels and computer games’.
