Seminar paper from the year 2008 in the subject Film Science, grade: 1,2, University of Modena e Reggio Emilia (Universit degli studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia - Facolt di Lettere e Filosofia), course: Border Crossings: Constructing Personal and Social Identity in Film, 13 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: In the two selected David Lynch movies a shared motif becomes apparent: the question of identity. Therefore I define border crossing as the crossing of a psychological border within a person making possible to live out different (part-) identities. Jeffrey in Blue Velvet as well as Betty/Diane in Mulholland Drive have two different identities, i.e. they are presented to us in two different roles, a psychological border crossing takes place. In either case the concepts of identity and identity construction which were current at the date of the movies' origin are represented. Framing these concepts in relation to the time they were made it becomes clear that we are dealing with innovative groundbreaking ideas. Thus I compare the films relating to how they express identity construction and the therewith combined border crossing. Hereupon I will relate this analysis to the history of identity to make clear in which sense the dealing with the identity discourse is innovative in both of the films. Finally I will discuss the question if the presented border crossings are still border crossings today or if they have already become habits. To find an answer I will classify the movies within the film history and explain how the film socialization determines the spectators' readings. I suggest that both films despite all their differences actually tell the same story, only that there are sixteen years of (film-) history between them causing the different ways of narrating. A second border crossing becomes apparent, a border crossing between the two films.

The Galactic Heritage Cards were first introduced in Japan, where hundreds of Lyssa's students have since used them with profound results. USING THE CARDS: The overall concept of the cards is to explore the journey from unity to fragmentation/polarity and back to reintegration. Since each of us is part of the same one consciousness, this is a holographic "journey" that unifies us all. The card system uses the holographic concept that we are experiencing both unity and separation simultaneously. The components of the cards explore this journey in a variety of ways, including: SPECIES or STAR SYSTEM: Twenty-one different species or star systems are represented in the four suits (or time streams) of cards to symbolize the main archetypal groups who have influenced the development of our galactic family. THEME: Each card has a theme or lesson that is connected to the civilization it depicts. Contemplative text and deeper commentary are presented for each card to help users understand how to apply this wisdom in their current lives. ARTWORK: The architect of these cards, the multidimensional consciousness Germane channeled through Lyssa, also assisted Hong Kong artist David Cow in the channeling of the images. Contemplating the artwork allows more information and energy to be transmitted that goes beyond the text for each card. The art works deeply with the subconscious and adds a powerful dimension to the user's inner work with the cards. In addition to the individual card art, an underlying image spans all the cards when they're laid out on a grid with 18 cards per row. This image represents our journey back to integration, and thus each card carries an embedded energy of unity even within the uniqueness and "separate journey" of each card. When the final card was channeled, the total number was 108 -- a sacred number in many traditions that reflects the idea of wholeness and completion. GETTING STARTED: In the accompanying booklet we offer more information, the text and commentary for each card, and several recommended spreads to help you get started.

Warlord written by Carlo D'Este and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Prime ministers categories.

Carlo D'Este examines the life of Winston Churchill through his military service as both a soldier and warlord. He was the descendent of the first Duke of Marlborough who, despite never having risen above the rank of lieutenant colonel, eventually came at the age of sixty-five to direct Britain's military campaigns in the greatest conflict of the twentieth century. D'Este explores Churchill's strategies in both world wars - the disastrous failures as well as the dazzling triumphs, and casts fresh light on his tumultuous relationships with his generals. Warlord is a masterful, unsparing portrait of one of history's most fascinating and influential leaders.

Studies In Islamic Commercial Law Ottoman Land Law written by Servet Armagan and has been published by IUR Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with Law categories.

This book is a humble essay on some topics in Islamic law. It is divided into two main parts. The first part presents some legal studies carried out by a jurist in Islamic commercial law. The second part takes up land law in the Ottoman Empire. Nonetheless, we should admit that one of the most obvious features of the Ottoman Empire was its wide territory and characteristics of its administration. The Ottoman Empire lasted for more than 600 years and extended across three continents: Asia, Africa, and Europe. Economically, this worlwide empire, known as the “Pact Ottomana” is important for the Ottoman treasury. The land law of the Ottoman Empire can be a model for Islamic countries today, both with respect to administration and economics (the latter is very important). These countries should adopt the land system of the Ottoman Empire, and this book will elucidate the main justifications and reasons for this claim.

Theory Of Transport Properties Of Semiconductor Nanostructures written by Eckehard Schöll and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-27 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Recent advances in the fabrication of semiconductors have created almost un limited possibilities to design structures on a nanometre scale with extraordinary electronic and optoelectronic properties. The theoretical understanding of elec trical transport in such nanostructures is of utmost importance for future device applications. This represents a challenging issue of today's basic research since it requires advanced theoretical techniques to cope with the quantum limit of charge transport, ultrafast carrier dynamics and strongly nonlinear high-field ef fects. This book, which appears in the electronic materials series, presents an over view of the theoretical background and recent developments in the theory of electrical transport in semiconductor nanostructures. It contains 11 chapters which are written by experts in their fields. Starting with a tutorial introduction to the subject in Chapter 1, it proceeds to present different approaches to transport theory. The semiclassical Boltzmann transport equation is in the centre of the next three chapters. Hydrodynamic moment equations (Chapter 2), Monte Carlo techniques (Chapter 3) and the cellular au tomaton approach (Chapter 4) are introduced and illustrated with applications to nanometre structures and device simulation. A full quantum-transport theory covering the Kubo formalism and nonequilibrium Green's functions (Chapter 5) as well as the density matrix theory (Chapter 6) is then presented.

Meaning Truth And Reference In Historical Representation written by Frank R. Ankersmit and has been published by Cornell University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-04-24 with History categories.

In this book, the noted intellectual historian Frank Ankersmit provides a systematic account of the problems of reference, truth, and meaning in historical writing. He works from the conviction that the historicist account of historical writing, associated primarily with Leopold von Ranke and Wilhelm von Humboldt, is essentially correct but that its original idealist and romanticist idiom needs to be translated into more modern terms. Rehabilitating historicism for the contemporary philosophy of history, he argues, "reveals the basic truths about the nature of the past itself, how we relate to it, and how we make sense of the past in historical writing." At the heart of Ankersmit's project is a sharp distinction between interpretation and representation. The historical text, he holds, is first and foremost a representation of some part of the past, not an interpretation. The book's central chapters address the concept of historical representation from the perspectives of reference, truth, and meaning. Ankersmit then goes on to discuss the possible role of experience in the history writing, which leads directly to a consideration of subjectivity and ethics in the historian's practice. Ankersmit concludes with a chapter on political history, which he maintains is the "basis and condition of all other variants of historical writing." Ankersmit’s rehabilitation of historicism is a powerfully original and provocative contribution to the debate about the nature of historical writing.
