Humans And Devices In Medical Contexts written by Susanne Brucksch and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-06-19 with Social Science categories.

This book explores the ways in which socio-technical settings in medical contexts find varying articulations in a specific locale. Focusing on Japan, it consists of nine case studies on topics concerning: experiences with radiation in Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Fukushima; patient security, end-of-life and high-tech medicine in hospitals; innovation and diffusion of medical technology; and the engineering and evaluating of novel devices in clinical trials. The individual chapters situate humans and devices in medical settings in their given semantic, pragmatic, institutional and historical context. A highly interdisciplinary approach offers deep insights beyond the manifold findings of each case study, thereby enriching academic discussions on socio-technical settings in medical contexts amongst affiliated disciplines. This volume will be of broad interest to scholars, practitioners, policy makers and students from various disciplines, including Science and Technology Studies (STS), medical humanities, social sciences, ethics and law, business and innovation studies, as well as biomedical engineering, medicine and public health.

Varieties Of Cooperation written by Clemens Eisenmann and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-03-02 with Social Science categories.

This volume conceives cooperation in broad terms as any form of mutual making, in which goals, means, and procedures are seen as ongoing accomplishments. From the exchanges of goods or information, to the interactions between bodies or organizations, and the coordination between colleagues, competitors, friends or foes. Mutually making the conditions of mutual making entails translating heterogeneous interests, negotiating conflicting values and articulating distributed activities. On the one hand, the contributions cover different notions and concepts of cooperation in diverse fields of study: from the mundane cooperation of everyday life to collective endeavors within specific domains. On the other hand, the contributions share a focus on the practices of making cooperation possible through cooperatively creating the conditions for cooperation itself. Seeing cooperative media both as a condition and consequence of cooperation, the volume sheds light on a general feature of media, technologies and instruments that both enable and constrain the collaboration between heterogeneous social worlds, with and without consensus.

Lifelogging written by Stefan Selke and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-06-14 with Social Science categories.

The following anthology delivers sound analysis to the theoretical classification of the current societal phenomenon - between innovative, world changing and yet disruptive technology, as well as societal and cultural transformation. Lifelogging, digital self-tracking and the real-time chronicling of man’s lifetime, is not only a relevant societal topic in the world of research and academic science these days, but can also be found in literature, cultural pages of the written press and the theatre. The spectrum of Lifelogging ranges from sleep, mood, sex and work logging to Thing and Deathlogging. This leads to several questions: How does one live in a data society? Is “measured” man automatically also “better” man? And if so, what is the cost? Do new categories of reality or principles of social classification develop as a result of Lifelogging? How does the “social view” on things change? The authors in this anthology provide insightful answers to these pressing questions.

Simulation Based Usability Evaluation Of Spoken And Multimodal Dialogue Systems written by Stefan Hillmann and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-23 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book describes an extension of the user behaviour simulation (UBS) of an existing tool for automatic usability evaluation (AUE). This extension is based upon a user study with a smart home system. It uses technical-sociological methods for the execution of the study and the analysis of the collected data. A comparison of the resulting UBS with former UBSs, as well as the empirical data, shows that the new simulation approach outperforms the former simulation. The improvement affects the prediction of dialogue metrics that are related to dialogue efficiency and dialogue effectiveness. Furthermore, the book describes a parameter-based data model, as well as a related framework. Both are used to uniformly describe multimodal human-computer interactions and to provide such descriptions for usability evaluations. Finally, the book proposes a new two-stage method for the evaluation of UBSs. The method is based on the computation of a distance measures between two dialogue corpora and the pair-wise comparison of distances among several dialogue corpora.

Repair Work Ethnographies written by Ignaz Strebel and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-12-14 with Social Science categories.

This pioneering book homes in on repair as an everyday practice. Bringing together exemplary ethnographies of repair work around the world, it examines the politics of repair, its work settings and intricate networks, in and across a wide range of situations, lay and professional. The book evidences the topical relevance of situated inquiry into breakdown, repair, and maintenance for engaging with the contemporary world more broadly. Airplanes and artworks, bicycles and buildings, cars and computers, medical devices and mobile phones, as virtually any commodity, infrastructure or technical artifact, have in common their occasional breakdown, if not inbuilt obsolescence. Hence the point and purpose of closely examining how and when they are fixed.

Wissenstransfer Im Krankenhaus written by Maximiliane Wilkesmann and has been published by Springer-Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-07-27 with Social Science categories.
