This volume conceives cooperation in broad terms as any form of mutual making, in which goals, means, and procedures are seen as ongoing accomplishments. From the exchanges of goods or information, to the interactions between bodies or organizations, and the coordination between colleagues, competitors, friends or foes. Mutually making the conditions of mutual making entails translating heterogeneous interests, negotiating conflicting values and articulating distributed activities. On the one hand, the contributions cover different notions and concepts of cooperation in diverse fields of study: from the mundane cooperation of everyday life to collective endeavors within specific domains. On the other hand, the contributions share a focus on the practices of making cooperation possible through cooperatively creating the conditions for cooperation itself. This book describes an extension of the user behaviour simulation (UBS) of an existing tool for automatic usability evaluation (AUE). This extension is based upon a user study with a smart home system. It uses technical-sociological methods for the execution of the study and the analysis of the collected data. A comparison of the resulting UBS with former UBSs, as well as the empirical data, shows that the new simulation approach outperforms the former simulation. The improvement affects the prediction of dialogue metrics that are related to dialogue efficiency and dialogue effectiveness. Furthermore, the book describes a parameter-based data model, as well as a related framework. Both are used to uniformly describe multimodal human-computer interactions and to provide such descriptions for usability evaluations. Finally, the book proposes a new two-stage method for the evaluation of UBSs. The method is based on the computation of a distance measures between two dialogue corpora and the pair-wise comparison of distances among several dialogue corpora.

Moderne Krankenhäuser gleichen einem Mikrokosmos menschlichen Daseins mit all seinen Spannungen – und das wortwörtlich vom Leben bis zum Tode. Neben den medizinischen Herausforderungen, die es zu bewältigen gilt, exist- ren eine Vielzahl besonderer Beziehungen in diesem Mikrokosmos. Als Anfang 2006 unser jüngster Sohn unerwartet schwer erkrankte, wurde ich als pflegende Angehörige für fünf Wochen unweigerlich Mitglied im Mik- kosmos Krankenhaus. 24 Stunden am Tag beobachte ich mehr oder weniger gezwungenermaßen den Krankenhausalltag aus dem Augenwinkel einer aus- bildeten Sozialwissenschaftlerin. Als besonders interessanter Untersuchungs- genstand stellte sich der Wissenstransfer zwischen den Ärzten und den Pfle- kräften heraus. Frisch aus dem Krankenhaus entlassen, galt es daher dieses Feld näher zu erforschen. Die vorliegende Arbeit wurde im Wintersemester 2008/09 von der Fakultät für Sozialwissenschaft der Ruhr-Universität Bochum als Dissertation angen- men. Für den Druck wurde sie geringfügig gekürzt. An dieser Stelle möchte ich die Gelegenheit nutzen, all den Personen zu danken, die zum Gelingen der Arbeit beigetragen haben.
