For over a century New Testament scholars have explored the issue of possible antisemitism in Luke-Acts, especially because the author apparently blames the Jews for the death of Jesus. This monograph offers a fresh analysis of this question revealing a different emphasis: that among the Jews only those associated with Jerusalem, especially the Sanhedrin, are responsible for Jesus' death. Luke's Israel is in fact divided in response to Jesus, not monolithically opposed to him. Furthermore, the ascription of responsibility to the people of Jerusalem in Acts, widely regarded as a Lukan creation, in fact is more likely to have been based on sources independent of the synoptics. A consideration of ancient literature concerned with the deaths of innocent victims further suggests a likely "Sitz im Leben" for the transmission of material ascribing responsibility for Jesus' death.

Den Vortritt hat Lukas, dessen Texte oft, aber nicht immer, ein älteres Überlieferungsstadium aufweisen als die des (als Verfassergruppe anzusehenden) Matthäus. Gegenläufig dazu weisen viele Lukastexte, bes. die Wirtschaftsgleichnisse, Modernisierungen auf, die das Erzählte in die provinzrömische Welt übertragen. Sie spiegeln ein konkretes gesellschaftliches Geschehen wider, dessen Regeln oftmals andere waren als die heute üblichen. Noch mehr gilt das von den im Mt-Ev. gemachten, eher orientalischen Voraussetzungen. – Über das heute Gültige informiert vergleichshalber Susanne Benöhr-Laqueur am Ende jeder Perikope. Ein Beitrag von eigenem Gewicht ist die rechtshistorische Analyse der neutestamentlichen Berichte vom Prozess Jesu durch Martin Pennitz. Deren jeder stellt, abgesehen von literarischen Ausschmückungen, ein nach römischem Recht korrektes oder zumindest mögliches Verfahren dar.

Passions- und Ostergeschichte als Schlüssel zum Verständnis des Johannesevangeliums, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die wenigen Stunden von der Gefangennahme Jesu und seinem Prozess vor Pilatus gehören mitunter zu den umstrittensten Textpassagen in der gesamten Passionsgeschichte. Die Verhaftung wurde im Garten Gethsemane vorgenommen und spiegelt sich in den Evangelien wieder. Seine Verhaftung wurde durch einen „Verhaftungstrupp“ vollzogen, wobei sich Theologen und Wissenschaftler uneinig sind, aus welchen Bevölkerungsschichten (jüdisch oder römisch-jüdisch) sich dieser Trupp zusammensetzte. Ein Verhaftungstrupp aus jüdischen Milizionären wäre jedoch naheliegend. Es müssen auch nicht viele gewesen sein, denn die Initiative der Verhaftung ging von den jüdischen Autoritäten aus. Zu diesen gehörten die Hohepriester Kajaphas und Hannas. Wenn Pilatus die Verhaftung angeordnet und es sich damit um einen römisch-jüdischen Trupp zur Ergreifung Jesu gehandelt hätte, wäre Jesus sicher aus Kompetenzgründen sofort vor ein römisches Gericht oder einer römischen Verwahrung gebracht worden, denn nur wenige hundert Meter von Gethsemane entfernt liegt die Burg Antonia. Jesus erste Verhandlung startete somit vor einem jüdischen Gericht, welches sich vom Synedrium, der obersten jüdischen Verwaltungs- und Justizbehörde, zusammensetzte. Das Synedrium setzte sich aus dem Hoherpriester Kajaphas, den Hohenpriestern Hannas, dem Priesteradel und den Sadduzäern sowie den Schriftgelehrten und den Ältesten zusammen. Die Anklage gegen Jesu lautete Tempellogion und Messiasbekenntnis. Nach einer langen Gerichtsverhandlung fragte schließlich der Hohepriester Jesu, ob er der Sohn Gottes sei. Obwohl zur damaligen Zeit die jüdische Justiz einem Beschuldigten das Recht einräumte keinerlei Äußerungen machen zu müssen, beantwortete Jesus die Frage mit „Ich Bin`s“. Somit war die „Gotteslästerung“ für die Hohepriester „live“ zu hören und weitere Zeugen waren von Unnöten. Durch seine freiwillige und wahrheitsgemäße Antwort hatte Jesus seinen Feinden die Mittel in die Hand gegeben ihn zu verurteilen. Die beim Verhör von Jesu versammelten Synedristen sind von ihrer Schuld nicht freizusprechen, jedoch darf man ihnen nicht vorwerfen, dass sie es sich mit ihrer Entscheidung zu einfach gemacht hatten, bedenkt man die Tatsache, dass Jesus wie ein politisch und religiöser gefährlicher Rebell wirkte, den es zu beseitigen galt, da man die Stadt und die Religion keinem Risiko aussetzten wollte.

Reflections on the Early Christian History of Religion documents the results of two recent workshops on Martin Hengel's and Maria Schwemer's first volume of first volume of Geschichte des frühen Christentums (Jesus und das Judentum [title of vol. 1], Tübingen 2007) and Larry Hurtado's Lord Jesus Christ: Devotion to Jesus in Earliest Christianity (Grand Rapids 2003). The contributors, including Hengel himself, focus on problems and possibilities of studying and presenting Christian religion in Roman Antiquity. They discuss distinctive features of these two remarkable publications and some material aspects that illustrate the relationship between the historical study of early Christian religion, religious studies in general and New Testament studies in particular.
