Inhaltsangabe:Einleitung: Die fortschreitende Internationalisierung und Globalisierung der heutigen Wirtschaft bedeutet eine verstärkte interkulturelle Kooperation. Dieser Trend vermehrt und intensiviert den Kontakt und die Interaktion zwischen Angehörigen unterschiedlicher Kulturen. Dabei treffen unterschiedliche Einstellungen, Normen, Werte, Denk- und Verhaltensweisen aufeinander. Die gewohnten Muster versagen und können zum Scheitern oder Misserfolg der interkulturellen Kooperation führen. Dementsprechend zeigen einige weniger erfolgreiche grenzüberschreitende Zusammenschlüsse von Unternehmen, dass diese an Profit und Marktanteilen verloren und viele der ange-strebten Ziele nicht erreichen konnten. Gerade zwischen den Ländern Frankreich und Deutschland sind trotz geographischer Nähe, gemeinsamer Geschichte, enger politischer Beziehungen sowie wirtschaftlicher Verflechtungen die kulturellen Unterschiede zu groß, als dass sie nach denselben Denk- und Verhaltensansätzen arbeiten würden. Demgemäß belegen auch zahlreiche Studien, dass die deutsch-französische Zusammenarbeit vor dem Hintergrund der völlig unterschiedlichen Kulturen oft von erheblichen Reibungsverlusten und Spannungen be-gleitet wird. Andererseits bestätigt das Gelingen mancher anderer Unternehmensverbindung wie z.B. die französische RHÔNE POULENC Société Anonyme (SA) mit der deutschen HOECHST AG zum Pharmagigant AVENTIS das Synergiepotenzial, das sich aus dem Ausschöpfen dieser Unterschiede ergibt. Insofern sind deutsch-französische Wirtschaftskooperationen ein ausgezeichnetes Analyseobjekt für interkulturelle Fragestellungen. Gang der Untersuchung: Da in Zukunft die interkulturelle Zusammenarbeit von zunehmender Bedeutung sein wird, soll in dieser Arbeit die Rolle der Kultur näher beleuchtet werden, wobei hier exemplarisch die Zusammenarbeit von Deutschen und Franzosen in deutsch-französischen Joint Ventures (JV) behandelt wird. Im folgenden zweiten Kapitel sollen zunächst einige theoretische Grundlagen vorge-stellt werden. Dafür ist es notwendig, sich mit den Begriffen des Internationalen Joint Ventures (IJV) und der Kultur auseinander zu setzen, um sich danach mit der Inter-kulturellen Managementforschung beschäftigen zu können. Das Kapitel schließt mit der Erläuterung dreier bekannter Ansätze des Interkulturellen Managements ab, um dem Leser eine Grundidee von der Thematik zu geben. The development of EU enlargement has raised many thorny issues unanticipated by the framers of the EC Treaty. A significant upshot of these issues is that the concept of European identity – defined in terms of such factors as culture, history and economics – has supplanted the long-dominant theme of ‘widening and deepening,’ particularly since the Union’s expansion has become primarily eastward. The major contribution of this important book lies in its analysis of the conceptualization and perception of enlargement from various points of view, focusing on the concerns of stakeholders and the ‘identity’ conflicts and uncertainties incurred by enlargement initiatives. In the course of its presentation, it details the actual pre-accession Europeanization process and its complex history. Among the key elements discussed are the following: the conflict between ‘widening’ and ‘deepening’ and the effect on EU institutional reform; institutional requirements on candidate countries; pre-accession criteria and negotiations; administrative capacity, judicial capacity, and legal approximation in accession states; capacity of the EU to absorb new Member States; and EC law as part of European identity. Also covered are specific historical details of particular pre-accession negotiations (e.g., Greece, Spain, Portugal, Malta, and Cyprus), the still inconclusive negotiations with Turkey and the Western Balkan states, and political factors involved in the non-accession of Norway, Iceland and Switzerland.
