Die Hauptfigur des Esseintes versucht, ein v llig neues Lebensmodell auf der Basis des sthetisch-K nstlichen aufzubauen und sich selbst zum Sch pfer seiner individuellen Welt zu erheben. Friedrich Nietzsches Muse Lou Andreas-Salom ver ffentlicht 1885 den ersten von ihm inspirierten Roman Im Kampf um Gott.
