Wahrend Ukrainer und Separatisten sich um den Verbleib ihrer Regierung und um die moglichen Bundnisse mit der NATO oder Russland streiten, sitzen europaische Politiker zwischen den Stuhlen. Einerseits soll den Opfern der Volksaufstande geholfen werden, andererseits wird ein neuer Kalter Krieg befurchtet, sollte weiterhin keine Einigung fur den Konflikt gefunden werden. Erneut streiten sich West und Ost um ein Land, das sowohl geografische Vorteile aufweist, als auch als Statement fur den Einfluss der jeweiligen Regierung dienen konnte. Wie kam die Zeruttung eines ganzen Landes zustande? Welche Auswirkungen hat die Teilung auf die Bevolkerung? Und wie wahrscheinlich ist es, dass in der naheren Zukunft eine anerkannte Losung fur dieses Problem gefunden wird? Um zu verstehen, wie es zur politischen Teilung der Bevolkerung kam, muss zunachst die Geschichte der Ukraine betrachtet werden.
