Jahrhundert in der Etablierung der katholischen Konfessionskultur in den habsburgischen Territorien. Am Beispiel von Erzherzoginwitwe Maria von Innerösterreich (1551-1608), Königinwitwe Elisabeth von Frankreich (1554-1592) und Erzherzogin Magdalena von Innerösterreich (1532-1590) zeigt Julia Hodapp das diffizile Wechselspiel von Stiftungstätigkeit, Bestattungszeremoniell, der Ausgestaltung von Grablegen und der Initiation von Seligsprechungsprozessen als Instrumente der Konfessionalisierung, die gezielt von den Habsburgerinnen des 16. Jahrhunderts zur Etablierung der katholischen Konfessionskultur genutzt wurden. Erstmals wird das personelle Netzwerk sichtbar, auf das der spätere Kaiser Ferdinand II. zur Umsetzung seiner dynastischen Religionspolitik vertraute und das ihm die Mutter als "Grande Dame" der habsburgischen Politik selbstbewusst aufgebaut hatte. Das bislang kaum erforschte Verhältnis zwischen hochadligen Frauen und dem Jesuitenorden erhält neue Impulse, die ein bisher nicht bekanntes hohes Maß an Einflussmöglichkeiten und Partizipation der Habsburgerinnen an Ordensbelangen zu Tage treten lassen. Die vorliegende Untersuchung gibt Einblick in die Rolle von hochadligen Frauen im Konfessionalierungsprozess, biographische Einblicke in das Leben bisher wenig beachteter Habsburgerinnen und die Verknüpfung von Tod, Memoria und Bestattung als politische Steuerungsinstrumente der Konfessionalisierung.
