Neben diesen Aspekten versucht diese Hausarbeit zu klären, wie Pythagoras es geschafft hat, Philosophie, Religion und zumindest im Ansatz exakte Wissenschaft zu vereinen. Um auf diese Fragestellung eingehen zu können, ist es notwendig die Lehren des Pythagoras genauer zu beleuchten. Besonders die Lehre der Seelenwanderung und die Akusmata, welche das Leben im Pythagoreeischen Kult bestimmte, werden dabei die wichtigsten Inhalte, die zur Beantwortung der Fragen nötig sind. In dem Kapitel „Akusmata“ wird der Zusammenhang der Seelenlehre im Vordergrund stehen. Des weiteren sollen auch die Sichtweisen anderer Gelehrter und zeitlich nahestehenden Personen über Pythagoras und dessen Lehren an Hand verschiedener Quellen erläutert werden, damit die Gespaltenheit um seine Person verdeutlicht wird.

Approximately 600 texts, dating from the sixth century BCE to the fourteenth century CE, are presented in chronological order, both in the original language (Greek, Latin, Arabic and Persian) and in a facing English translation. The original-language texts are reprinted (with corrections) from Georg Wöhrle's edition (2009). Several texts discovered since the publication of the 2009 edition are included. The English translations were made by Richard McKirahan from the original texts. Differences between the German and the English translations are noted. This volume brings together key findings of the long-term research project ‘Religious Individualisation in Historical Perspective’ (Max Weber Centre for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies, Erfurt University). Combining a wide range of disciplinary approaches, methods and theories, the volume assembles over 50 contributions that explore and compare processes of religious individualisation in different religious environments and historical periods, in particular in Asia, the Mediterranean, and Europe from antiquity to the recent past. Contrary to standard theories of modernisation, which tend to regard religious individualisation as a specifically modern or early modern as well as an essentially Western or Christian phenomenon, the chapters reveal processes of religious individualisation in a large variety of non-Western and pre-modern scenarios. Furthermore, the volume challenges prevalent views that regard religions primarily as collective phenomena and provides nuanced perspectives on the appropriation of religious agency, the pluralisation of religious options, dynamics of de-traditionalisation and privatisation, the development of elaborated notions of the self, the facilitation of religious deviance, and on the notion of dividuality.
