Das Augenmerk dieser Arbeit richtet sich auf das unmittelbar mit autobiografischem Schreiben zusammenhängende Moment des Erinnerns, genauer auf dessen Bedeutung und formale wie inhaltliche Darstellung. Dieses Feld wurde im Hinblick auf die Nachwendeliteratur vor allem durch die Thesen Bluhms und Prof. Dr. Carsten Gansels bereichert. Hensel und Rennefanz gehören ein und derselben Generation an, daher wäre davon auszugehen, dass ihre Erinnerungen an die Kindheit und demzufolge die Entwicklungen nach der Wende ähnliche sind. Doch dies ist scheinbar nicht der Fall, denn, so behauptete nicht nur Thomas Bernhard schon vor 30 Jahren in einem Interview in der Frankfurter Allgemeinen Zeitung, sondern auch Hensel und Rennefanz weisen innerhalb der hier behandelten Werke darauf hin, die eigene Geschichte rückblickend objektiv und historisch korrekt zu erzählen sei nicht möglich. Von subjektiven Erfahrungen unabhängige, äußere Einflüsse, wie zum Beispiel Medienberichte, aber auch spätere Lebensumstände prägen und verändern die persönliche Erinnerung und Haltung gegenüber der eigenen Vergangenheit.
