Jay Leyda Die Wiederverwertung alten Filmmaterials zur Erstellung von anders als den uns vertrauten Filmen ist keine Erfindung neueren Datums. Bereits Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts mit dem Entstehen des Films besch ftigten sich Schriftsteller, Filmregisseure und Filmtheoretiker wie Sergej Michajlowitsch Eisenstein und die Schnittmeisterin Esther Schub (eine Mitarbeiterin Eisensteins) mit der Theorie und Praxis sog. "Filmkompilationen", also dem Zusammenschneiden gefundenen Archivmaterials. Heute f llt diese Methodik allgemein unter den Begriff des "Found Footage". Die lteste Kategorie bildet hierbei der "Kompilationsfilm", ein aus altem Archivmaterial hergestellter Dokumentarfilm, wenn man so m chte. Im Rahmen dieser Hausarbeit besch ftigt mich insbesondere die Frage nach der Inszenierung des Politischen im Kompilationsfilm und welche Bedeutung ihm als Wahrheitstr ger ber die vermeintliche 'Wahrheit' im Vergleich zum reinen Dokumentarfilm zukommt oder ob er nicht doch ggf. eher als 'filmisches Kunstwerk' zu verstehen ist. Inwieweit k nnen Kompilationsfilme ihre politischen Aussagen berzeugender treffen als ihre 'Genre-Vettern', die Dokumentarfilme.
