Unser Seminar „Feste, Bräuche und Rituale im Winterhalbjahr: Kulturelles Handeln zwischen Tradition und Moderne“ führte uns in die Brauch- und Ritualforschung ein und lehrte uns, gemäß den Regeln der Europäischen Ethnologie nach den Wurzeln jener Bräuche zu fragen und deren vielfältige kulturelle Ausprägungen fachgemäß zu beleuchten. Ein interessanter interkultureller Untersuchungsgegenstand sind in diesem Zusammenhang die Festivitäten des sechsten Januars. Während in Deutschland der Dreikönigstag gefeiert wird, wird in Italien die Befana zelebriert. Die Italiener gedenken zwar auch den Drei Königen, die Hauptfigur des Festes ist dort aber die Weihnachtshexe Befana.
