In 2022, almost 84 million people worldwide were forcibly displaced. More than two-thirds of them reside in urban areas. Displacement and forced migration are an urban experience and an urban story of those seeking protection. This book helps us understanding the conditions of displaced population in cities, and the way cities and urban actors respond to recent migration trends. It applies an urban perspective to the analysis of migration processes, and it provides insights into the urban governance of forced migration and asylum, the production of spaces related to forced migration, and the role of the displaced population as actors of urban change. Dominierte seit Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts die Wahrnehmung von Säkularisierung und vom Abbau religiöser Institutionen die sozialwissenschaftliche Debatte, gibt es heute auch andere Wahrnehmungen. Jürgen Habermas beispielsweise weist in seiner Rede von der 'postsäkularen Gesellschaft' darauf hin, dass religiöse Verortungen auch in der säkularen Moderne weiterhin Bestand haben. Das zeigt dieses Buch ganz konkret am Beispiel der Kommunalpolitik. Tobias Meier ist Diplom-Ingenieur für Stadt- und Regionalplanung, Stadtsoziologe und Community Organizer. Aufgewachsen im Schwarzwald, arbeitet und forscht er seit seinem Studium deutschlandweit zu Stadtpolitik, Stadtentwicklung, Quartiers- und Gemeinwesenarbeit sowie sozialräumlichem Handeln. Sein besonderes Interesse gilt der Rolle von Religion im lokalen Miteinander. Er lebt in Düsseldorf.
