Jost Trier gilt im Allgemei-nen als Begründer der Feldtheorie. Er stellte sich in seinen Studien zwei bedeu-tende Fragen: 1.) Welche Umstände, Anzeichen und Merkmale geben uns das Recht, ein Feld anzunehmen? und 2.) Was kann die Linguistik mit dem Feld anfangen? Diesen Fragen sollen u. a. in dieser Arbeit nachgegangen werden, die das Ziel hat, den Weg zu einem sprachlichen Feld aufzuzeigen. Hierfür werden die An-fänge der Wortfeldtheorie, aber auch Kritik an dieser Theorie dargestellt. Als Hauptvertreter der Wortfeldtheorie wird neben Jost Trier, der aufgrund seiner Erkenntnisse und Verdienste in der Wortfeldforschung am ausführlichsten dar-gestellt werden soll, auch auf Gunther Ipsen und auf Leo Weisgerber, der die Theorie Triers weiterentwickelte und sie populär machte, eingegangen.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2007 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Linguistik, Note: 1,3, Universität Rostock, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Eine der revolutionären Entwicklungen in der Geschichte der Semantik wurde eingeleitet durch das Wirken von Jost Trier (1894-1970). Der Linguist ebnete mit seinen Ausführungen über Wort- und Begriffsfelder den Weg für die Wortfeldforschung, die bis dahin nur in Ansätzen existiert hatte. Die Wortfeldtheorie, deren Grundzüge Trier 1931 formuliert hatte, fand zugleich zahlreiche Anhänger als auch Opponenten. Einerseits wurde die Wortfeldmethodik als erkenntnisfördernd und nützlich in der Hinsicht empfunden, dass sie eine Möglichkeit darstellt, den Wortschatz in seinen semantischen Zusammenhängen darzustellen. Andererseits boten offensichtliche methodische und konzeptuelle Schwächen vielen Kritikern Angriffsfläche. Die vorliegende Arbeit thematisiert Triers Wortfeldtheorie von 1931 im Spiegel ihrer Kritiker. Zunächst werden wichtige Grundlagen zur Besprechung der Theorie gelegt und die theoretischen Voraussetzungen für die Entwicklung der Theorie, sowie ihre Grundcharakteristika dargestellt. Daraufhin wird konkret auf streitbare Thesen eingegangen, wobei sich die Gliederung der Kritikpunkte an den Arbeiten von den wichtigsten Kritikern der Wortfeldtheorie, G. Kandler und R. Hoberg, orientiert. Sachliche Einwände anderer wichtiger Autoren wie K. Gabka, F. Dornseiff und L. Weisgerber wird unter den groben Gliederungspunkten ebenfalls erfasst. Darüber hinaus werden Ergebnisse eines eigens im Seminar "Das sprachliche Feld von Jost Trier und Leo Weisgerber bis zur kognitiven Linguistik" bei Prof. Dr. Ewald durchgeführten Seminartests präsentiert und anhand dieser diverse Aspekte der Wortfeldkritik praktisch belegt. Da sich die Literatur zur Wortfeldkritik fast ausschließlich auf die ursprüngliche Theorie von 1931 bezieht, beschränkt sich auch diese Arbeit auf eine Kritik an Triers frühesten Darstellungen und vernachlässigt mit Bedacht auf den

It is widely believed by historians of linguistics that the 19th-century was largely devoted to historical and comparative studies, with the main emphasis on the discovery of soundlaws. Syntax is typically portrayed as a mere sideline of these studies, while semantics is seldom even mentioned. If it comes into view at all, it is usually assumed to have been confined to diachronic lexical semantics and the construction of some (mostly ill-conceived) typologies of semantic change. This book aims to destroy some of these prejudices and to show that in Europe semantics was an important, although controversial, area at that time. Synchronic mechanisms of semantic change were discovered and increasing attention was paid to the context of the sentence, to the speech situation and the users of the language. From being a semantics of transformations', a child of the biological-geological paradigm of historical linguistics with its close links to etymology and lexicography, the field matured into a semantics of comprehension and communication, set within a general linguistics and closely related to the emerging fields of psychology and sociology.

Contrastive lexical semantics was the main topic of an International Workshop at the University of Münster in May, 1997. It was addressed from different perspectives, from the pragmatic perspective of a corpus-oriented approach as well as from the model-oriented perspective of sign theoretic linguistics. Whereas the rule-governed model-oriented approach is necessarily restricted to subsets of vocabulary, the pragmatic approach aims to analyse and describe the whole vocabulary-in-use. After the pragmatic turn, lexical semantics can no longer be seen as a discipline on its own but has to be developed as an integral part of a theory of language use. Essential features of individual languages can be discovered only by looking beyond the limits of our mother languages and including a contrastive perspective. Within a pragmatic, corpus-oriented approach essential new ideas are discussed, mainly the insight that single words can no longer be considered to be the lexical unit. It is the complex multi-word lexical unit a pragmatic approach has to deal with.
