Excerpt from Diet for Women This book is due indirectly to the Editor of The Times, who, recognising the importance of the subject of Diet, opened his columns to a discussion on the subject. The gauntlet having been thrown down by an eminent physician, who asserted that women do not eat enough, I was forced to take up the challenge and reply in the contrary to the best of my ability. My reply was contained in the following letter: - "Sir, - Last January you published a letter from me on the subject of the feeding of schoolboys, the last sentence of which read as follows: 'In short, the average schoolboy does not eat too little - he eats too much, but does not include sufficient fresh fruit and vegetables in his daily dietary.' "We are generally told 'women eat too little.' Believing, as I do, that all diseases are caused either by an excessive or an injudicious diet, and further, that these diseases can be cured by changing that diet, I feel it to be a public duty to warn women that if they increase the quantity of food they take in the 24 hours, the only people that will benefit will be the doctors. Let's face it—women simply do not shed pounds or build muscle as easily as men do. Drawing on fascinating recent research that has shed new light on the gender differences in food metabolism and the effect of exercise, the editors of Women's Health, the healthy lifestyle magazine for today's active woman on the go, have devised a weight-loss plan that works especially well for women who would like to lose 5-25 pounds. Key features of the Women's Health Perfect Body Plan include: • Glucomannan, a soluble fiber that helps dieters feel full faster—and therefore eat less throughout the day • Meal plans that contain at least 40 grams of fiber per day • An adjustment for the impact of female hormones on weight loss (women need a higher protein diet than men to increase lean body tissue and decrease body fat) • Dieting techniques that revolve around psychological needs and personal goals and lifestyle • Two diet plans to choose from—one higher in fats and lower in carbs; the other higher in carbs and lower in fats (simple food tests help women choose the type they need) In addition to the customized eating plan—complete with 75 easy-to-prepare recipes—there is a vigorous customized fitness program consisting of 50 exercises that brings results in just three weeks.

An updated edition of registered dietitian Hillary Wright's popular book on nutrition and lifestyle management of PCOS, this prescriptive guide focuses on using diet and exercise to manage polycystic ovary syndrome and has new information on diet therapy and exercise, current food and fitness logging technologies, and all-new nutrition-backed meal plans. PCOS is the most common hormonal disorder among women of reproductive age, according to the Mayo Clinic. Characterized by numerous small cysts in the ovaries, PCOS affects up to 10 percent of all women and 14 million women in the United States alone. It is linked to infertility, diabetes, heart disease, and endometrial cancer. While this disorder is believed to be genetic and incurable, it is controllable. In this prescriptive plan, dietitian Hillary Wright demystifies the condition by explaining its underlying cause--insulin resistance--and helps readers understand how diet and lifestyle can influence reproductive hormones and decrease risk for diabetes, heart disease, and infertility. This book is packed with simple dietary and nutritional specifics: day-to-day strategies, sample meal plans, and shopping and snack lists. Updates include new information on diet therapy and exercise, the newest research on PCOS and soy and dairy, revised meal plans, and updated resources and shopping lists. The PCOS Diet Plan is the most comprehensive and authoritative guide to managing this increasingly diagnosed condition.

Why Women Need Fat written by William D. Lassek M.D. and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-12-29 with Health & Fitness categories.

The groundbreaking discovery that shows why women need fat to lose fat. Why do women struggle so much with weight? Can women ever lose weight and keep it off? In this research-driven and counterintuitive book, an anthropologist and a public health doctor team up to answer those questions. Blending anecdotal evidence with hard science, they explain how women's weight is controlled by evolution-but more important- they reveal how a change in diet three decades ago may be the reason women today are bigger than their grandmothers were. Explaining why fat (both in our diet and in our body) is crucial to long-term health, the authors show not only why women tend (and need) to get heavier after having their first child, but also destroy cultural myths like "all fat is bad for you." Providing a plan that can help any woman achieve a natural, healthy weight- without dieting- Why Women Need Fat not only gives women the tools they need to shed weight, but also a better understanding of why those last five pounds seem impossible to lose.
