A Complete One-Stop Resource While digital color is now the technology of choice for printers, the knowledge required to address the quality and productivity issues of these devices is scattered across several technologies, as is its supporting literature. Bringing together information from diverse fields, Control of Color Imaging Systems: Analysis and Design is the first book to provide comprehensive coverage of the fundamentals and algorithms of the numerous disciplines associated with digital color printing in a single resource. The authors review the history of digital printing systems, explore its current status, and explain fundamental concepts, including: digital image formation, sampling, quantization, image coding, spot color calibration, and one- and multi-dimensional tone control of color management systems — including process physics and controls. A Complete Self-Tutorial With Over 150 Design Examples and 120 Exercise Problems Based on the authors’ three decades of hands-on technical and teaching experience, the text provides engineers and technicians with an end-to-end understanding of the color printing process, and helps them build a foundation drawn from the diverse disciplines needed to manage and control digital production printers. The control theory and methods presented in this book are state-of-the art for color printing systems; however, coverage of theoretical concepts and mathematics are kept to the basics, as the book is designed to teach hand’s on skills that will allow practitioners to gain an immediate understanding of quality and productivity concerns. The understanding provided will help practitioners build the technical skills needed to help pioneer the next generation of ideas, algorithms, and methods that will further expand the frontier of this rapidly evolving technology.

At present the textile industry produces the majority of its 34 billion square yards of printed textile fabric by screen printing. However as we move into the digital age developments in digital printing of paper are being adapted more and more for the textile market. Inkjet textile printing is growing while growth in analog textile printing remains stagnant. As digital print technologies improve offering faster production and larger cost-effective print runs, digital printing will grow to become the technology that provides the majority of the world’s printed textiles. This comprehensive introduction to the subject is broken into five sections. After two introductory chapters, it goes on to look in a number of detailed chapters at printer and print head technologies. The next section examines the printer software required for successful colour design and management. The digital printing colouration process is explored next, with chapters on substrate preparation, pigmented ink, aqueous inkjet ink, pre-treatment and printing on cationized cotton with reactive inks. The book is concluded with three chapters on the design and business aspect of digital printing.Digital printing of textiles contains fundamental technical explanations along with recent research, and is an invaluable guide for product developers, retailers, designers and academic researchers. Provides coverage of all the current developments in digital textile printing Covers important areas such as printer and print head technologies, printer software, digital printing colouration and design and business for digital printing

Printing and imaging has a major impact on everyone. From the obvious examples of newspapers, magazines and comics through to photographs, currency and credit cards, and even the less obvious example of compact discs, everyone is familiar with the end products of printing and imaging. Until recently, the major printing and imaging technologies have been impact printing and silver halide photography. Important impact printing technologies are offset lithography, gravure, flexography and screen printing. All these technologies, including silver halide photography, are mature and have changed little over the past few decades. In contrast, the phenomenal growth of silicon chip technology over the past 15 years or so has spawned a new era of printing and imaging systems, the so-called non impact (or electronic) printers. Not all the non-impact printing technologies are of equal commercial importance. Some, like diazotype and conventional photolithography, are mature and are declining in importance. Other technologies, though relatively new, have not achieved notable commercial success. Electro graphy and magnetography fall into this category. The remaining tech nologies such as optical data storage (the technology used in compact discs), thermography (the technology used in electronic photography), ink jet printing and electrophotography are the non-impact printing tech nologies that are both modern and which have achieved remarkable commercial success, especially ink-jet printing and electrophotography.

Printing traces its roots back for centuries, and the invention of moveable type changed the world. However, until the advent of the computer, printing remained a costly and time-consuming operation. From the first humble dot matrix to modern inkjet, laser, and dye sublimation printers, desktop printing has brought low-cost, high quality printing out of the large presses and into the home and office. Color Desktop Printer Technology provides an overview of the current state of the technology, examining both current and emerging applications. With expert contributors from leading companies and universities in the US and Japan, this book examines the color desktop printer from every angle. It begins with an introduction to the basic principles of color printing and the concepts of document and image quality. An overview of the historical background, current trends, and future directions places the technology in its business and market context. The book then devotes four chapters to the major platform: inkjet, laser printer, thermal transfer, and film recording. The last two chapters focus on color management and the quickly developing spectral printing technology. Laying a foundation for continued development and innovation in this ubiquitous field, Color Desktop Printer Technology is fundamental enough to be enjoyed by interested laypersons, yet detailed enough to satisfy the practicing engineer.
