Digital Negatives with QuadToneRIP is a text that fully explores how the QuadToneRIP printer driver can be used to make expert digital negatives. The book takes a comprehensive, Òunder-the-hoodÓ look at how Roy Harrington’s QTR printer driver can be adapted for use by artists in several different creative practice areas. The text is written from the Mac/Photoshop point of view. The book is divided into three parts. Part One is a step-by-step how-to section that will appeal to both beginning and more advanced practitioners. Part One includes quickstart guides or summary sheets for beginning students who want to jump into using QTR before understanding all of its functional components. Part Two addresses dimroom, darkroom, and printmaking practices, walking the reader through brief workflows from negative to print for lithium palladium, gum bichromate, cyanotype, salted paper, kallitype, silver gelatin and polymer photogravure, with a sample profile for each. It also includes an introduction to a new software iteration of QTR: QuickCurve-DN (QCDN). Part Three is devoted to contemporary practitioners who explain how they use QTR in their creative practice. The book includes: A list of supplies and software needed A summary QTR glossary with a simple explanation of how each function works A sample walk-through to create a QTR profile from start to finish How to linearize profiles with simple to more exacting tools A visual guide to modifying functions Quickstart guides for many of the workflows Instructions for crafting monochrome, duotone, tricolor, and quadcolor negatives Instructions for using QTR to print silver gelatin in the darkroom Instructions for using QTR to print alternative processes in the dimroom Instructions for using QTR to print polymer photogravure in the printmaking room Introductory chapter to QuickCurve-DN software Troubleshooting common QTR problems Generic starter profiles for processes discussed Contemporary artists: their work and QTR process. Learning how to craft expert digital negatives can be a bit overwhelming at the outset. Digital Negatives with QuadToneRIP makes the process as user-friendly as possible. Blueprint To Cyanotypes Exploring A Historical Alternative Photographic Process written by Malin Fabbri and has been published by AlternativePhotography.com this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-01-01 with Photography categories.

An excellent beginners’ guide to cyanotypes – all you need to get started, and some goodies for more advanced cyanotypers too. About the book The cyanotype is often the first alternative process that people try. It is relatively easy and safe enough to nurture a child’s interest in photography. It can also be seen as a gateway to further exploration of historic photographic methods. In addition, it gives experienced photographers and artists a great excuse to take their eyes off the computer screen and get their hands dirty. Blueprint to cyanotypes is all you will need to get started with cyanotypes. It offers the beginner a step-by-step guide, from choosing material to making the final print. It is full of information and tips. Even the experienced cyanotypist may learn a thing or two. Blueprint to cyanotypes is published by AlternativePhotography.com – a website and information center dedicated to alternative photographic processes. From Malin Fabbri, the author: Why a book on cyanotypes? Of all the alternative processes the cyanotype is the one closest to my heart. I made my first cyanotype in 1999. I was intrigued by the blue images and wanted to test the cyanotype process to see what it had to offer. I bought chemicals and spent an evening coating paper and cloth. The results of the next day’s printing surprised me. Although the alchemy of the darkroom had always captivated me, developing a print in the sun was like a liberation. One of the things I found most refreshing about the process was the unpredictability of the results. Some of my best prints were the product of ‘happy accidents’. The developing process is straightforward. The chemicals are cheap, and most of the other items used can be found around the house. Pre-coated paper is available, but one of the benefits of working with cyanotypes is the great flexibility of material and paper available to you. Cyanotypes print on anything made of natural fibre. Cotton, linen, silk, handmade paper, watercolor paper and rags are just number of alternatives. Some artists even print on wood. So, if you want to explore a fun alternative photographic process or seriously want to experiment with producing unique fine art, make a cyanotype.

Easy Digital Negatives is another remarkable book by Peter Mrhar, this time taking the reader step-by-step through the entire process of creating digital negatives that are the basis for almost all modern so-called alternative photographic techniques. Of course, the author again justifies his popularity with additional descriptions of how to reproduce images, with a description of his new technique for making negatives, with a description of the simplified procedure for calibrating the screen, and particularly describing a free program which automatically completes everything. In this book, of course, the reader first learns the basics of digital photography, which are necessary for making digital negatives. Then the settings of Adobe Photoshop and printers, and methods to increase and decrease print density are described, so that each reader can print the optimum negative, regardless of the price range of the printer. Then follow procedures for the reproduction of photographs with both scanners and with any camera. After this introduction, the author introduces the reader to the standard time of printing - or correct time of exposure - and presents two techniques to determine the optimal UV blocker color on the negative, and describes the production of colorized negatives. This description is followed by techniques for correcting and printing negatives. In a simple but effective way, normalization of photos is described, which is followed by two techniques to correct mid-tones, first with the popular custom curves and then by making adjustments by the slightly more accurate method of mapping tones. The next chapter is intended for slightly more demanding readers, as it describes the correction of corrections and a way for making a negative with average values. At the end of the book, the reader will discover a chapter on calibrating the monitor, which is necessary for the efficient processing of digital images, and a chapter which justifies the name of this book: here, the author's freeware program is described. If the reader knows its basic concepts, with a few clicks and in a few minutes, it automatically performs all of the procedures described in this book.
