Digital Past written by Peter Haber and has been published by Oldenbourg Wissenschaftsverlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-09-07 with History categories.

Mills Kelly, Assoziierter Direktor des Center for History and New Media an der George Mason University"

Geschichte Digital written by Guido Koller and has been published by Kohlhammer Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-20 with History categories.

Nowadays, digital communication decisively shapes the professional image of the historian. What was still the exception 20 years ago is the norm today: Historical worlds are measured digitally and interpreted analogically. Digitalisation is changing the way historians think, teach and write, even today and is having a retroactive effect on the writing of history. Today, historians process large amounts of data with algorithms which make completely new perspectives and approaches to historical sources possible. The book describes the state of digital transformation for history as part of the humanities and discussed the perspectives on the future of the big data in the historical sciences. A service part complements this book, in which infrastructure, portals, tools, standards and blogs are presented.

Digital history is an emerging field that draws on digital technology and computational methods. A global enterprise that invites scholars worldwide to join forces, it presents exciting and novel ways we might explore, understand and represent the past. Hannu Salmi provides the most compelling introduction to digital history to date. Beginning with an examination of the origins of the digital study of history, he goes on to discuss the question of how history exists in a digitized form. He introduces basic concepts and ideas in digital history, including databases and archives, interdisciplinarity and public engagement. Outlining the problems and methods in the study of big data, both textual and visual, particular attention is paid to the born-digital era: the contemporary age that exists primarily in digital form. What is Digital History? is essential reading for students of history and other humanities fields, as well as anyone interested in how digitization and digital cultures are transforming the study of history.

Trading Zones Of Digital History written by Max Kemman and has been published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-10-04 with History categories.

Digital history is commonly argued to be positioned between the traditionally historical and the computational or digital. By studying digital history collaborations and the establishment of the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History, Kemman examines how digital history will impact historical scholarship. His analysis shows that digital history does not occupy a singular position between the digital and the historical. Instead, historians continuously move across this dimension, choosing or finding themselves in different positions as they construct different trading zones through cross-disciplinary engagement, negotiation of research goals and individual interests.

Digital History And Hermeneutics written by Andreas Fickers and has been published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-06-21 with History categories.

As a result of rapid advancements in computer science during recent decades, there has been an increased use of digital tools, methodologies and sources in the field of digital humanities. While opening up new opportunities for scholarship, many digital methods and tools now used for humanities research have nevertheless been developed by computer or data sciences and thus require a critical understanding of their mode of operation and functionality. The novel field of digital hermeneutics is meant to provide such a critical and reflexive frame for digital humanities research by acquiring digital literacy and skills. A new knowledge for the assessment of digital data, research infrastructures, analytical tools, and interpretative methods is needed, providing the humanities scholar with the necessary munition for doing critical research. The Doctoral Training Unit "Digital History and Hermeneutics" at the University of Luxembourg applies this analytical frame to 13 PhD projects. By combining a hermeneutic reflection on the new digital practices of humanities scholarship with hands-on experimentation with digital tools and methods, new approaches and opportunities as well as limitations and flaws can be addressed.
