General Topology I written by A.V. Arkhangel'skii and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Mathematics categories.

This is the first of the encyclopaedia volumes devoted to general topology. It has two parts. The first outlines the basic concepts and constructions of general topology, including several topics which have not previously been covered in English language texts. The second part presents a survey of dimension theory, from the very beginnings to the most important recent developments. The principal ideas and methods are treated in detail, and the main results are provided with sketches of proofs. The authors have suceeded admirably in the difficult task of writing a book which will not only be accessible to the general scientist and the undergraduate, but will also appeal to the professional mathematician. The authors' efforts to detail the relationship between more specialized topics and the central themes of topology give the book a broad scholarly appeal which far transcends narrow disciplinary lines.

Dimension Theory In Dynamical Systems written by Ya. B. Pesin and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997 with Mathematics categories.

In this book, Yakov B. Pesin introduces a new area of research that has recently appeared in the interface between dimension theory and the theory of dynamical systems. Focusing on invariant fractals and their influence on stochastic properties of systems, Pesin provides a comprehensive and systematic treatment of modern dimension theory in dynamical systems, summarizes the current state of research, and describes the most important accomplishments of this field. Topics include, but are not restricted to, the general concept of dimension; the dimension interpretation of some well-known invariants of dynamical systems, such as topological and measure-theoretic entropies; formulas of dimension of some well-known hyperbolic invariant sets, such as Julia sets, horseshoes, and solenoids; mathematical analysis of dimensions that are most often used in applied research, such as correlation and information dimensions; and mathematical theory of invariant multifractals. Pesin's synthesis of these subjects of broad current research interest will be appreciated both by advanced mathematicians and by a wide range of scientists who depend upon mathematical modeling of dynamical processes. The book can also be used as a text for a special topics course in the theory of dynamical systems and dimension theory.

Thermodynamic Formalism And Applications To Dimension Theory written by Luis Barreira and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-08-24 with Mathematics categories.

This self-contained monograph presents a unified exposition of the thermodynamic formalism and some of its main extensions, with emphasis on the relation to dimension theory and multifractal analysis of dynamical systems. In particular, the book considers three different flavors of the thermodynamic formalism, namely nonadditive, subadditive, and almost additive, and provides a detailed discussion of some of the most significant results in the area, some of them quite recent. It also includes a discussion of the most substantial applications of these flavors of the thermodynamic formalism to dimension theory and multifractal analysis of dynamical systems.

Bibliotheca Mathematica, Volume 6: Modern Dimension Theory provides a brief account of dimension theory as it has been developed since 1941, including the principal results of the classical theory for separable metric spaces. This book discusses the decomposition theorem, Baire's zero-dimensional spaces, dimension of separable metric spaces, and characterization of dimension by a sequence of coverings. The imbedding of countable-dimensional spaces, sum theorem for strong inductive dimension, and cohomology group of a topological space are also elaborated. This text likewise covers the uniformly zero-dimensional mappings, theorems in euclidean space, transfinite inductive dimension, and dimension of non-metrizable spaces. This volume is recommended to students and specialists researching on dimension theory.

Fractals And Universal Spaces In Dimension Theory written by Stephen Lipscomb and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-10-28 with Mathematics categories.

Historically, for metric spaces the quest for universal spaces in dimension theory spanned approximately a century of mathematical research. The history breaks naturally into two periods - the classical (separable metric) and the modern (not-necessarily separable metric). The classical theory is now well documented in several books. This monograph is the first book to unify the modern theory from 1960-2007. Like the classical theory, the modern theory fundamentally involves the unit interval. Unique features include: * The use of graphics to illustrate the fractal view of these spaces; * Lucid coverage of a range of topics including point-set topology and mapping theory, fractal geometry, and algebraic topology; * A final chapter contains surveys and provides historical context for related research that includes other imbedding theorems, graph theory, and closed imbeddings; * Each chapter contains a comment section that provides historical context with references that serve as a bridge to the literature. This monograph will be useful to topologists, to mathematicians working in fractal geometry, and to historians of mathematics. Being the first monograph to focus on the connection between generalized fractals and universal spaces in dimension theory, it will be a natural text for graduate seminars or self-study - the interested reader will find many relevant open problems which will create further research into these topics.

Ergodic Theory Hyperbolic Dynamics And Dimension Theory written by Luís Barreira and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-04-28 with Mathematics categories.

Over the last two decades, the dimension theory of dynamical systems has progressively developed into an independent and extremely active field of research. The main aim of this volume is to offer a unified, self-contained introduction to the interplay of these three main areas of research: ergodic theory, hyperbolic dynamics, and dimension theory. It starts with the basic notions of the first two topics and ends with a sufficiently high-level introduction to the third. Furthermore, it includes an introduction to the thermodynamic formalism, which is an important tool in dimension theory. The volume is primarily intended for graduate students interested in dynamical systems, as well as researchers in other areas who wish to learn about ergodic theory, thermodynamic formalism, or dimension theory of hyperbolic dynamics at an intermediate level in a sufficiently detailed manner. In particular, it can be used as a basis for graduate courses on any of these three subjects. The text can also be used for self-study: it is self-contained, and with the exception of some well-known basic facts from other areas, all statements include detailed proofs.

Dimension And Extensions written by J.M. Aarts and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993-01-28 with Mathematics categories.

Two types of seemingly unrelated extension problems are discussed in this book. Their common focus is a long-standing problem of Johannes de Groot, the main conjecture of which was recently resolved. As is true of many important conjectures, a wide range of mathematical investigations had developed, which have been grouped into the two extension problems. The first concerns the extending of spaces, the second concerns extending the theory of dimension by replacing the empty space with other spaces. The problem of de Groot concerned compactifications of spaces by means of an adjunction of a set of minimal dimension. This minimal dimension was called the compactness deficiency of a space. Early success in 1942 lead de Groot to invent a generalization of the dimension function, called the compactness degree of a space, with the hope that this function would internally characterize the compactness deficiency which is a topological invariant of a space that is externally defined by means of compact extensions of a space. From this, the two extension problems were spawned. With the classical dimension theory as a model, the inductive, covering and basic aspects of the dimension functions are investigated in this volume, resulting in extensions of the sum, subspace and decomposition theorems and theorems about mappings into spheres. Presented are examples, counterexamples, open problems and solutions of the original and modified compactification problems.

Dimension And Recurrence In Hyperbolic Dynamics written by Luis Barreira and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-11-05 with Mathematics categories.

The main objective of this book is to give a broad uni?ed introduction to the study of dimension and recurrence inhyperbolic dynamics. It includes a disc- sion of the foundations, main results, and main techniques in the rich interplay of fourmain areas of research: hyperbolic dynamics, dimension theory, multifractal analysis, and quantitative recurrence. It also gives a panorama of several selected topics of current research interest. This includes topics on irregular sets, var- tional principles, applications to number theory, measures of maximal dimension, multifractal rigidity, and quantitative recurrence. The book isdirected to researchersas well as graduate students whowish to have a global view of the theory together with a working knowledgeof its main techniques. It can also be used as a basis for graduatecourses in dimension theory of dynamical systems, multifractal analysis (together with a discussion of several special topics), and pointwise dimension and recurrence in hyperbolic dynamics. I hope that the book may serve as a fast entry point to this exciting and active ?eld of research, and also that it may lead to further developments.

Collected Works Of Witold Hurewicz written by Witold Hurewicz and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995 with Mathematics categories.

This book contains papers of the outstanding and versatile mathematician, Witold Hurewicz. Preceding the collection are introductory articles describing Hurewicz's contributions to Borel sets, dimension theory, and algebraic topology. Hurewicz first studied set theory and dimension, and his papers on this topic are especially clear and precise, making them accessible to beginning mathematicians. His work in algebraic topology is marked by five fundamental papers which provide an introduction to homotopy groups and the Hurewicz Theorem concerning the relation between homotopy and singular homology. These papers are included here in their original form along with English translations. Each paper in the collection is followed by a review from one of the major reviewing journals. These reviews were written by eminent mathematicians and serve as excellent abstracts for the papers.
