Ein Studierender, der sich mit den Wirtschaftswissenschaften befaßt, steht schon bald nach Beginn seines Studiums vor der Frage, wie er wissenschaft liche Arbeiten anzufertigen hat. Die erste Berührung mit diesem Problem erhält er meistens in Übungen oder Seminaren. Es wird von ihm beispiels weise die Anfertigung eines wissenschaftlichen Referates über ein bestimm tes wirtschafts wissenschaftliches Thema verlangt. Der Verfasser dieses Buches hat in seiner fast zwanzigjährigen Dozententätigkeit leider allzu häufig feststellen müssen, daß viele Studierende nicht wissen, welche Anfor derungen an eine wissenschaftliche Arbeit zu stellen sind. In Vorlesungen, Arbeitsgemeinschaften, Übungen und Seminaren werden Erläuterungen über die Technik des wissenschaftlichen Arbeitens meist aus Zeitmangel kaum oder nicht hinreichend gegeben. Die Anfertigung der Diplom- oder einer anderen Abschlußarbeit, die in den letzten Semestern des Studiums verlangt wird, stellt den Studierenden vor ganz besondere Schwierigkeiten, denn er weiß oft nicht genau, wie er u. a. wissenschaftliche Ergebnisse aus anderen Arbeiten verwerten darf oder wie die Fußnoten- oder Zitatentechnik ge handhabt wird. In der vorliegenden Arbeit findet der Leser nun viele Ratschläge nach der praktischen Seite hin. Bei der Darstellung wurde die "Ich-Form" gewählt, wie der Verfasser dieser Arbeit sie in einer Spezialvorlesung angewandt hat. Ratschläge werden besser in einer persönlichen Form nahegebracht. Im Anhang werden, um die Darstellung anschaulicher zu machen, noch Musterdispositionen wiedergegeben sowie Hinweise maßgebender Profes soren über besondere Anforderungen an wissenschaftliche Arbeiten.

In meiner Diplomarbeit mit dem Titel "Alternative Antriebe: Gegenüberstellung, Wirtschaftlichkeit und Energieeffizienz" stelle ich informativ und umfangreich alternative Kraftstoffe (z.B. Biodiesel, Bioethanol, Erdgas, Autogas, usw.) und alternative Antriebe (Elektro- und Hybridantrieb) für Personenkraftwagen vor, welche die individuelle Mobilität in der Zukunft sichern sollen. Zunächst wird die Notwendigkeit der Alternativen zu den heutigen Otto- und Dieselantrieben erläutert und es werden die allgemeinen Anforderungen an die zukünftigen Kraftstoffe und Antriebe diskutiert. Die alternativen Kraftstoffe und Antriebe werden daraufhin im Einzelnen in einer umfangreichen Übersicht vorgestellt. Eine Gegenüberstellung der alternativen Antriebe und Kraftstoffe und eine Bewertung nach zuvor festgelegten Kriterien runden die Diplomarbeit ab. Das Ziel dieser Diplomarbeit ist es, jedem Leser – ob Fachmann oder Laie – die Möglichkeit zu geben, eine Übersicht über die heute bereits entwickelten oder sich in der Entwicklung befindlichen alternativen Kraftstoffe und Antriebe zu bekommen. Die Bewertung und die Gegenüberstellung sollen zudem eine Beurteilung aufgrund ökonomischer und ökologischer Faktoren erlauben. This first volume in the treatise on the Physics of Lakes deals with the formulation of the mathematical and physical background. A large number of lakes on Earth are described, presenting their morphology as well as the causes of their response to the driving environment. Because the physics of lakes cannot be described without the language used in mathematics, these subjects are introduced first by using the simplest approach and with utmost care, assuming only a limited college knowledge of classical Newtonian physics, and continues with increasing complexity and elegance, starting with the fundamental equations of Lake Hydrodynamics in the form of ‘primitive equations’ and leading to a detailed treatment of angular momentum and vorticity. Following the presentation of these fundamentals turbulence modeling is introduced with Reynolds, Favre and other non-ergodic filters. The derivation of averaged field equations is presented with different closure schemes, including the k-ε model for a Boussinesq fluid and early anisotropic closure schemes. This is followed by expositions of surface gravity waves without rotation and an analysis of the role played by the distribution of mass within water bodies on the Earth, leading to a study of internal waves. The vertical structure of wind-induced currents in homogeneous and stratified waters and the Ekman theory and some of its extensions close this first volume of Physics of Lakes. The last chapter collects formulas for the phenomenological coefficients of water.

Almost 25 synagogues once represented the diversity of Jewish sacred architecture in Vienna. Before 1900, the Jewish community in Vienna had grown to become the third largest in Europe. Almost every district had a temple. The new synagogues had to assert themselves in the cityscape, mostly only vacant lots in narrow streets were available. The volume recalls these sacred buildings with virtual reconstructions and numerous views, almost all of which were destroyed during the November program of 1938.
