Il presente volume rappresenta l’esito di un percorso di ricerca sulle trasformazioni strutturali dello stato sociale e s’inserisce, con taglio interdisciplinare, entro gli studi di diritto del lavoro e della sicurezza sociale, di diritto costituzionale, di diritto dell’Unione europea, di political economy, di politica sociale comparata e giuspubblicistici sulla nuova governance economico-finanziaria dell’Unione europea. Sostanzialmente, esso s’interroga sul ruolo che la costruzione del mercato globalizzato, specialmente finanziario e di capitali, oltre che di produzione e merci, ha svolto e continua a svolgere per la configurazione del paradigma dei diritti e delle politiche sociali, a livello nazionale e sovranazionale. L’intento dell’Autore è quello di ricostruire e sistematizzare le principali direttrici di metamorfosi del sistema di protezione sociale e nazionale al tempo della condizionalità, onde sottoporre a vaglio critico la fondamentale questione relativa alla tenuta dei diritti sociali e delle categorie classiche del welfare state democratico e postbellico, verificandola sulla disciplina delle politiche del lavoro, attive e passive, e della tutela contro la povertà e l’esclusione sociale, anche all’esito dell’introduzione italiana del reddito di cittadinanza.
