Agnes Grey’ is the debut novel of Anne novel of Anee Bronte. It’s a victorian novel. The story revolves around the center character, Agnes Grey who works as a governess within the families of the English gen-try. Actually. Anne (the author) had also worked as a governess for almost 5-years. So she has put all her experiences in the novel. How she actually suffered and, in general, how actually it all affected a young woman. She has focussed on empathy in the story, not only with the human beings but also with the animals. How Agnes be unsuccessful as a governess? So this complete story will be unveiled after going through this romantic and empathy based novel. Very interesting and lucidly written. Metamorphosis Franz Kafka, the author has very nicely narrated the story of Gregou Samsa who wakes up one day to discover that he has metamorphosed into a bug.The author has written many important stories, including The Judgement, and much of his novels Amerika, The Castle, The Hunger Artist.Over the course of the 1920s and 30s Kafkas works were published and translated in-stantly becoming landmarks of twentieth-century liter-ature. The style of the book epitomizes Kafkas writing. Kafka very interestingly, used to present an impossible situation, such as a mans transformation into an insect, and develop the story from there with perfect realism and intense attention to detail. The Metamorphosis is an autobiographical piece of writing, and we find that parts of the story reflect Kafkas own life.

What is it like being a woman – in society, in the home and as a person in one’s own right? Originally published in 1967, here is a collection of passages, all linked by their theme, that of being a woman. They are taken from novels, essays, letters and diaries written by or about women concerning their psychology and position in society from the later eighteenth century onwards. In these days of emancipation and assumed equality (in some countries at any rate) it is as well to remember the very recent past and to look forward to the future, for all girls will have, certain problems to face just because they are girls. It is best to be prepared. The anthology was chosen and organised for girls who were taking English, either for General Studies or in preparation for University. The extracts cover a wide range of styles and periods, and were selected both as representative of their time and as good examples of prose. Love, sex, marriage, motherhood and the wider role of women in society are among the topics covered, and there is an ample list of suggestions for further readings, biographical notes on the writers and suggested questions for discussions or essay-writing.
