In Dublin, Ireland, academics and historians are dying. An unidentified venom is to blame. Strange markings from deep in the Emerald Isle’s past suggest adherents to lost and forbidden knowledge may have reorganized. Detective Aileen O’Donnell of Ireland’s National Police Service, An Garda Síochána, has never heard of the agency’s sub rosa unit devoted to investigation of the strange and paranormal. That is, until a shooting incident leads to her suspension from the Special Detective Unit. While awaiting disciplinary proceedings, she’s pressed into service by the secret division to investigate the deaths and what might be the tip of a conspiracy and academic cover-up. Soon O’Donnell’s teamed with Geoffrey Bullfinch and Wendell "Mack" Macklemore of O.C.L.T. On a race through medieval ruins and holy sites, she must collect puzzle pieces, fragments from a forgotten pulp writer and bits of secret Druid history to stop the shadowy band of disciples before it awakens something long sleeping beneath one of Ireland’s most famous landmarks, something modern technology and firepower can’t defeat. This novel, which stands alone, is a tie-in with the ongoing O.C.L.T. series. There are incidents and emergencies in the world that defy logical explanation, events that could be defined as supernatural, extraterrestrial, or simply otherworldly. Standard laws do not allow for such instances, nor are most officials or authorities trained to handle them. In recognition of these facts, one organization has been created that can. Assembled by a loose international coalition, their mission is to deal with these situations using diplomacy, guile, force, and strategy as necessary. They shield the rest of the world from their own actions, and clean up the messes left in their wake. They are our protection, our guide, our sword, and our voice, all rolled into one. They are O.C.L.T. Other books in the O.C.L.T. series include the novella "Brought to Light," By Aaron Rosenberg, the novel "The Parting," by David Niall Wilson, the novella "The Temple of Camazotz," also by David Niall Wilson, and the novel "Incursion," by Aaron Rosenberg (in which the existence of the O.C.L.T. as a cohesive unit is finalized). Another stand-alone adventure can be found — "The Noose Club," by David Bischoff. Cover art on Disciples of the Serpent comes from Bob Eggleton.

The sword of Revelation delivers the deadly wound to the first beast, but will the deadly wound be healed as foretold? Do Christians truly understand the nature of the kind and compassionate Father as described by Christ? Do those Christians who consider themselves to be the disciples of Christ in the world today really know how to judge what is of God’s spirit as opposed to what is evil? Not many Christians understand the lesson of calling fire from heaven, and in fact a great majority of them would still make that same error in judgment today for which Jesus rebuked his disciples over two thousand years ago. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and what greater way is there to corrupt people absolutely than to have them believe that they are on God’s side in a war against the unbelievers? Are Christians today armed with the Word of God as their defense against the deceiver warned in the book of Revelation? Or will the future deceiver instead arm himself with the Word of God to use as the very instrument of their deception? Now the time indeed has come for both Christians and Jews alike to judge for themselves what is the holy nature of the Father’s kindness and compassion, and what could only truly be adjudicated as the cunning works of evil.

The Serpent S Gift written by Jeffrey J. Kripal and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-09-15 with Religion categories.

“Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field.” With those words in Genesis, God condemns the serpent for tempting Adam and Eve, and the serpent has shouldered the blame ever since. But how would the study of religion change if we looked at the Fall from the snake’s point of view? Would he appear as a bringer of wisdom, more generous than the God who wishes to keep his creation ignorant? Inspired by the early Gnostics who took that startling view, Jeffrey J. Kripal uses the serpent as a starting point for a groundbreaking reconsideration of religious studies and its methods. In a series of related essays, he moves beyond both rational and faith-based approaches to religion, exploring the erotics of the gospels and the sexualities of Jesus, John, and Mary Magdalene. He considers Feuerbach’s Gnosticism, the untapped mystical potential of comparative religion, and even the modern mythology of the X-Men. Ultimately, The Serpent’s Gift is a provocative call for a complete reorientation of religious studies, aimed at a larger understanding of the world, the self, and the divine.

The purpose of this treatise is three fold. First, to sound a warning to the followers of Jesus Christ. Secondly, to encourage those who are still searching for the Truth and finally, to prayerfully, help to open the spiritual eyes of those who have been ensnared and deceived by the enemy. Jesus Christ himself warned his disciples of the great danger of being deceived. Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ: and shall deceive many. (Matthew 24:4,5) and again, in verse eleven Jesus warned of false prophets saying, And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

The third volume in the four-volume commentary on the Book of Acts, this work presents a fresh look at the text of Codex Bezae and compares its message with that of the more familiar Alexandrian text of which Codex Vaticanus is taken as a representative. It deals with Acts 13.1-18.23, the chapters that cover the first two stages of the mission to the Gentiles, with the intervening meeting in Jerusalem (14.28-15.41). For each section, there is a side by side translation of the Bezan and Vaticanus manuscripts, followed by a full critical apparatus which deals with more technical matters, and finally, a commentary which explores in detail the differences in the message of the two texts. Of particular interest in this part of Acts are the person of Paul and the unfolding of his character and theology. It is found that in the Bezan text Luke portrays him as a fallible disciple of Jesus who, despite his powerful enthusiasm, is hindered by his traditional Jewish understanding from fully carrying out the mission entrusted to him in these first stages. The conclusion is drawn that the portrait of an exemplary hero in the Alexandrian text is a later modification of the flawed picture.

Not illustrated. 1847 edition. Excerpt: ...we resided with them, and we were never allowed to go to any other meeting. We were never allowed to read the writings of any other denomination, but if such books were found among us, they were burned: and instead of reading the Bible in meeting as the Christian denominations do, the Shakers read some writings of their own denomination, giving the orders and commands laid down by Ann Lee or some of her disciples, and such like things. "One Sabbath, when the hour of worship arrived, one of our ministers came before us with a paper in his hand, for the purpose of reading a vision--and what was it? It was the wild fruits of the imaginations of a drunken negro, who had been to Lebanon with a load of things for market, and had got brandy and concealed it in the stable, and drank too much. He was not drunk enough to be stupid, but to make him raving all night. In the morning the brandy had lost its power--he thought the best plan to conceal his drunkenness was, to say he had a vision, and did not know what he had done--for his soul was in the world of spirits conversing with Jesus Christ and Mother Ann. He said the people in eternity were not idle; they were busy at something. He said he saw Jesus Christ sorting broom-corn! and such like blasphemy, too absurd to be written for any one to read. But such wicked blasphemy often engrossed our whole attention during our meeting on the Sabbath. "It would be impossible for me, in my limited space, to give more than a brief hint of the scenes of idolatry I have witnessed, and can be abundantly proved. It would also be impossible to explain on one sheet the means they have resorted to, to crush down every thing like liberty of conscience, and to compel the ignorant young people they have...
