Is the solar system ordered? Or is it simply the result of random and chaotic accidents? This book takes the reader on a compelling and powerful journey of discovery, revealing the celestial spheres in their astonishingly complex patterns. Movements of the planets are found to correspond accurately with simple geometric figures and musical intervals, pointing to an exciting new perspective on the ancient idea of the "harmony of the spheres." Hartmut Warm's detailed presentation incorporates the distances, velocities, and periods of conjunction of the planets, as well as the rotations of the Sun, Moon, and Venus. Numerous graphics--including color plates--illustrate the extraordinary beauty of geometrical forms that result when the movements of several planets are viewed in relation to one another. Moreover, the author describes and analyzes concepts of the "music of the spheres," with special emphasis on Kepler's revolutionary ideas. The book also discusses current scientific beliefs about the origin of the universe and the solar system, enabling the reader to understand fully how this remarkable research supplements contemporary materialistic views of the cosmos. The appendix includes his mathematical and astronomical methods of calculation, as well as a detailed discussion of their accuracy and validity based on modern astronomical algorithms.

An Efficient Solution Space Exploring And Descent Method For Packing Equal Spheres In A Sphere written by Jianrong Zhou and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023 with categories.

The problem of packing equal spheres in a spherical container is a classic global optimization problem, which has attracted enormous studies in academia and found various applications in industry. This problem is computationally challenging, and many efforts focus on small-scale instances with the number of spherical items less than 200 in the literature. In this work, we propose an efficient local search heuristic algorithm named solution space exploring and descent for solving this problem, which can quantify the solution's quality to determine the number of exploring actions and quickly discover a high-quality solution. Besides, we propose an adaptive neighbor object maintenance method to speed up the convergence of the continuous optimization process and reduce the time consumption. Computational experiments on a large number of benchmark instances with 5 ≤ n ≤ 400 spherical items show that our algorithm significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art algorithm. In particular, it improves the 274 best-known results and matches the 84 best-known results out of the 396 well-known benchmark instances.

The Mystery Of The Seven Spheres written by Giovanni F. Bignami and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-06-13 with Science categories.

In this book, Giovanni Bignami, the outstanding Italian scientist and astronomer, takes the reader on a journey through the “seven spheres”, from our own planet to neighboring stars. The author offers a gripping account of the evolution of Homo Sapiens to the stage where our species is developing capabilities, in the form of new energy propulsion systems, that will enable us to conquer space. The reader will learn how we first expanded our activities to reach beyond our planet, to the Moon, and how nuclear energy, nuclear fusion, and matter–antimatter annihilation will enable us to extend our exploration. After Mars and Jupiter we shall finally reach the nearest stars, which we now know are surrounded by numerous planets, some of which are bound to be habitable. The book includes enticing descriptions of such newly discovered planets and also brings alive key historical characters in our story, such as Jules Verne and Werner von Braun.

Early humans turned what they could see above them into rich creation myths. Later philosophers created cosmologies that pushed myth closer toward empiricism. The flat disc universe yielded to celestial spheres, and the stationary Earth at the center of it all yielded to a spinning planet in a heliocentric solar system that was one of only untold hundreds of billions of solar systems in hundreds of billions of galaxies. This expansion of the cosmos was further revolutionized by theoretical physics, including the theory of relativity. The mind-expanding history of humanity's understanding of the universe is related here with gorgeous full-color photographs, captivating primary source imagery, and loads of capsule information and infographics.
