Essay from the year 2011 in the subject Politics - Topic: Globalization, Political Economics, grade: 1, University of Bologna (MIREES - International Research and Studies on Eastern Europe), language: English, abstract: A precise and exclusive definition of globalization all scholars agree with has not yet been made. The range is broad and differs from the eye of the beholder, since we are talking about a concept that has an impact all over the world, in every facet of life and on every single creature living on it. It is not simply definable through a single concept, but rather highly complex. This is also the difficulty about it and embraces the questions about the beginning, the intensity and where this leads to. I will examine these questions in this essay. Therefore I suggest to consider globalization as an open concept with its consequences. They might be advantageous for somebody, but disadvantageous for somebody else at the same time. Hence, I will collect a number of facts that globalization brought about and maybe try to give ideas in how far they could be considered as positive or negative of different actors. This collection can’t be exclusive and should be examined to exemplify.

This book offers new perspectives on global phenomena that play a major role in today’s society and deeply shape the actions of individuals, organizations and nations. In a complex and rapidly changing environment, decision-makers need to gain a better understanding of global phenomena to adapt and to anticipate the evolution of the global context. The authors—ten renowned international scholars of anthropology, economics, law, management and political science—propose an interdisciplinary and comparative approach to social sciences. They analyse how international phenomena, such as globalisation or transnationalisation, transform the disciplines of social sciences from an epistemological standpoint. Explaining what ‘global' means in difference disciplines, the authors analyse several global phenomena that characterise today’s international environment such as the circulation of norms and ideas, the linkages between war and globalization, corporate governance, and the impact of multinational enterprises on sustainable development and poverty reduction. Providing examples of analytical disciplinary approaches and guidelines for decision-makers in a fast-changing global context this book will be useful to scholars and students of anthropology, economics, law, management and political science as well as practitioners in the private and public sectors.

Seminar paper from the year 2009 in the subject Sociology - Economy and Industry, grade: 7,0, Maastricht University, language: English, abstract: Globalization is a term so frequently used that one tends to assume that everyone knows what globalization stands for. In one way this is true, since everybody pictures something different when using the word "globalization". The aim of this paper is to clarify the term "globalization" by discussing different authors. Yet, the paper does not aim at giving "THE definition" of globalization, rather it is attempting to show the different ways globalization can and is to be seen. Since there has been a massive amount of theoretical discussion of the term globalization, one needs to narrow down the field. Thus, this paper is mainly going to focus on the cultural dimension of globalization with a small outlook to other fields. Through the direct comparison of different authors certain shortcomings or advantages of their views might be easier noticed, as it would be the case when studying the authors separate from each other. At the same time, certain similarities or build - ups of theories can be detected as well. Following authors have been discussed: Anthony Giddens, Roland Robertson, Doreen Massey, Arjun Appadurai, Jan Nederveen Pieterse and Manuell Castells.

Understanding Globalization written by Kavous Ardalan and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-09-08 with Political Science categories.

This book discusses eight dimensions of globalization—world order, culture, the state, information technology, economics, production, development, and Bretton Woods Institutions—from the perspective of four diverse sociological paradigms: functionalist, interpretive, radical humanist, and radical structuralist. This multi-perspective approach forces readers to abandon their preconcieved assumptions and allows them the opportunity to view globalization through new eyes. Kavous Ardalan argues that social theory can usefully be conceived in terms of these four key paradigms because each one is founded upon different assumptions about the nature of social science and each one generates useful theories, concepts, and analytical tools. This method facilitates distancing from one's favored paradigm and appreciating other available approaches to better understand social phenomena. The knowledge of paradigms increases awareness of the boundaries and limitations of each individual paradigm. While most books on the topic focus on particular aspects of globalization from specific viewpoints, this fair and unbiased volume provides readers with a balanced understanding of globalization.
