In der vorliegenden Arbeit geht es um eine streng sprachwissenschaftliche Analyse mehrerer Reden, die Franco, Mussolini, Pétain und Salazar zwischen 1938 und 1945 zu verschiedensten Anlässen hielten. Auf der Grundlage der syntaktischen, semantischen, pragmatischen und kognitiven Valenz werden zunächst die eingesetzten diskursiven Strategien identifiziert und dann die diskursiven Ziele eruiert. Vereinfacht gesagt, betrachten wir als diskursive Strategien in erster Linie die Art und Weise der morphosyntaktischen Argument- bzw. Modifikatorrealisierungen, während wir unter diskursiven Zielen die daraus resultierenden Effekte, wie beispielsweise Polarisierung, Abschieben von Verantwortung, Verschleierung, Täuschung, Mystifizierung, Nicht-Identifizierbarkeit des Gemeinten aber etwa auch das Schaffen von Spannung u.a.m. verstehen. Die politische Rede wird sprachwissenschaftlich durchleuchtet, um deren tatsächliches Funktionieren zu erfassen.

The volume is a collection of papers reporting the results of investigations on the interaction of discourse and sentence structure in the languages of Europe. The subjects discussed in the book include: morphosyntactic characteristics of spontaneous spoken texts; different patterns of word order in a pragmatic perspective; the coding of the pragmatic functions topic and focus in sentences with non-canonical word orders (e.g. dislocations, clefts); the range of functions of verb-subject order in declarative clauses and the notion of theticity; prosodic patterns of de-accenting of given information; deixis and anaphora; coding of definiteness and article systems. What do opening dialogues, sonnets and the interaction style of the most diverse cultural and social groups share in common? The connecting element is the traditionality of speech – all speakers follow cultural patterns to convey their communicative intentions appropriately and successfully. In the same way as a sonnet or a novel is shaped by literary traditions of textual form, opening dialogues or speech styles that people cultivate in different contexts and communicative situations follow cultural traditions and habits. The starting point of this volume is the function of discursive traditions – a subject of intensive debate in recent years – that are a form of cultural knowledge and guide the textual form and thus constitute the essence of a culturally oriented linguistics. Research on the (romanistic) discursive tradition looks into the cultural techniques of speech in different linguistic and cultural areas and their relevance for shaping societal and cultural groups. On the basis of theory formation in Romanistic studies this volume presents and discusses models and methods developed in different areas of study that explain how traditions influence our speech and our writing.
