Pinocchio adalah tokoh sentral dalam cerita Petualangan Pinokio karangan Carlo Collodi. Dongeng Pinokia merupakan suatu cerita edukatif tentang boneka kayu yang berubah menjadi anak laki-laki bernama Pinokio karena bantuan peri. Pinokio memiliki petualangan yang mengubahnya dari anak yang nakal dan suka berbohong menjadi anak yang baik dan patuh pada orang tua. Cerita Pinokio berawal dari sepotong kayu yang diberikan Tuan Cherry kepada pemahat bernama Geppeto. Geppeto kemudian mengubah kayu tersebut menjadi sebuah boneka kayu yang diberi nama Pinokio. Suatu hari Pinokio yang lapar mencoba membuat omelet, tetapi sayangnya omelet tersebut terlempar ke luar rumah dan kaki Pinokio terbakar kompor. Geppeto yang baru saja pulang ke rumah langsung membuatkan kaki baru untuknya dan memberikan makanan yang dia punya untuk Pinokio. Geppeto sangat menyayangi Pinokio sebagai anaknya, dia menjual mantelnya untuk membeli buku sekolah Pinokio. Sayang buku tersebut malah dijual oleh Pinokio untuk membeli tiket pertunjukan boneka kayu. Pinokio hampir saja dibakar oleh pemilik pertunjukan, tetapi ketulusan hati Pinokio malah membuatnya diberi sejumlah koin emas. Di perjalanan pulang untuk memberikan koin emas kepada Geppeto, Pinokio malah mengikuti rubah dan kucing jahat yang berjanji akan menggandakan koin emas tersebut. Sayangnya, Pinokio malah tertipu, dirampok, dan nyaris dibakar oleh rubah dan kucing itu. Dalam petualangannya kembali ke rumah, Pinokio banyak menemui kesulitan dan mendapatkan bantuan dari peri. Pinokio juga dikisahkan pernah menjadi keledai dan dimakan oleh ikan hiu. Berbagai masalah dialami Pinokio karena sifatnya yang polos, bodoh, suka berbohong, dan egois. Namun pengalaman-pengalaman yang dialaminya mengubah Pinokio menjadi pribadi yang peduli terhadap perasaan orang lain dan patuh kepada orang tua. Akhir dari dongeng ini adalah Pinokio bertobat dan dapat bertemu kembali dengan Geppeto dan berubah menjadi anak laki-laki nyata.
