Original Sin written by Henri Blocher and has been published by InterVarsity Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-10-02 with Religion categories.

We live in a world shot through with evil. The twentieth century has witnessed suffering and human cruelty on a scale never before imagined. Yet, paradoxically, in recent years the doctrine of original sin has suffered neglect and ridicule. In this philosophically sophisticated treatment of the biblical evidence for original sin, Henri Blocher offers a robust response. Interacting with the best theological thinking on the subject, this New Studies in Biblical Theology volume shows that while the nature of original sin is a mystery—even a riddle—only belief in it makes sense of evil and wrongdoing. After a general survey of the biblical evidence, Blocher moves on to discuss the two key texts. First, he considers the relation of the Eden story of Genesis 2 and 3 to modern scientific, literary and theological thinking. Then, he offers a new and groundbreaking interpretation of Romans 5, where Paul discusses Christ and Adam. From this exegetical foundation, he goes on to show how the doctrine of original sin makes sense of the paradoxes of human existence. In the final chapter, he discusses the intellectual difficulties that some feel remain with the doctrine itself. Addressing key issues in biblical theology, the works comprising New Studies in Biblical Theology are creative attempts to help Christians better understand their Bibles. The NSBT series is edited by D. A. Carson, aiming to simultaneously instruct and to edify, to interact with current scholarship and to point the way ahead

Divinity And Humanity written by Oliver D. Crisp and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-02-15 with Religion categories.

The doctrine of the Incarnation lies at the heart of Christianity. But the idea that 'God was in Christ' has become a much-debated topic in modern theology. Oliver Crisp addresses six key issues in the Incarnation defending a robust version of the doctrine, in keeping with classical Christology. He explores perichoresis, or interpenetration, with reference to both the Incarnation and Trinity. Over two chapters Crisp deals with the human nature of Christ and then provides an argument against the view, common amongst some contemporary theologians, that Christ had a fallen human nature. He considers the notion of divine kenosis or self-emptying, and discusses non-Incarnational Christology, focusing on the work of John Hick. This view denies Christ is God Incarnate, regarding him as primarily a moral exemplar to be imitated. Crisp rejects this alternative account of the nature of Christology.

"The game takes place in the fantasy world of Eora, mainly inside the nation of Dyrwood. The infants in Dyrwood are plagued by a recent phenomenon in which they become "hollowborn" upon birth, meaning they are born with no soul. During the beginning of the game, the protagonist experiences an awakening of power due to a disastrous supernatural event, discovering they are a "Watcher": a person who can see souls and past lives. The objective of the game is to find out what caused their awakening and how to solve the hollowborn problem."--Wikipedia.

Brenda is trying to cope with raising her four-year-old daughter after an accident tore her family in half. As she and Daisy go for a much-needed treat, the little girl spots a Skellyman on the corner. This pivotal encounter leads to a wave of mounting terror as Brenda's life begins to come undone around her. Who is the Skellyman? Why does he keep appearing? Can the sympathetic policeman Brenda turns to stop the madness before it is too late? And why does Daisy insist that her dead brother is trying to tell them something important? I have always preferred the supernatural in tales of horror, the knot between life and death. Rie Sheridan Rose's Skellyman is cool and creepy. Her first horror novel is a chilling read. - Charlee Jacob - Stoker winner, best novel, "Dread in the Beast" ★★★★★ I found this story mesmerising! - I had never heard of the author or company, and wasn't sure if it would be one those predictable, somewhat stereotypical storylines. And I was so happy to be wrong in my assumption! It was original and unique in many ways and I couldn't put it down! I had suspicions of the identity of the Skellyman, but I was kept guessing back and forth until the very end! Definitely a new fan here! - Karrie Bloomer ★★★★★ Couldnt put it down. - I don't normally read horror or thriller. This book was great for a short read. There is no suspense as to who the "bad guy" is as the author makes it clear early in the book. However you have to keep reading to find out why. I couldn't put it down. And the last paragraph of the book just gave me chills. - Lorie L Michael Grab your copy today! Free with Kindle Unlimited. Thank you for your interest in our book. Seeking The Straight And Narrow written by Lynne Gerber and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-08-01 with Social Science categories.

Losing weight and changing your sexual orientation are both notoriously difficult to do successfully. Yet many faithful evangelical Christians believe that thinness and heterosexuality are godly ideals—and that God will provide reliable paths toward them for those who fall short. Seeking the Straight and Narrow is a fascinating account of the world of evangelical efforts to alter our strongest bodily desires. Drawing on fieldwork at First Place, a popular Christian weight-loss program, and Exodus International, a network of ex-gay ministries, Lynne Gerber explores why some Christians feel that being fat or gay offends God, what exactly they do to lose weight or go straight, and how they make sense of the program’s results—or, frequently, their lack. Gerber notes the differences and striking parallels between the two programs, and, more broadly, she traces the ways that other social institutions have attempted to contain the excesses associated with fatness and homosexuality. Challenging narratives that place evangelicals in constant opposition to dominant American values, Gerber shows that these programs reflect the often overlooked connection between American cultural obsessions and Christian ones.
