A BFF’s Guide to Divorce Written by Victoria Vestuto Illustrated by Ed Tripp If you, or someone you know, is about to go or is going through the divorce process, read this book. Divorce is a journey, and typically not an easy one. There are so many variables and decisions throughout and it can leave people exhausted and emotionally drained. You can choose to go it alone, but it is best to have a close friend, a confidant, a BFF, by your side. Inside the book, some of those variables and decisions are explained. If you “go it alone,” this book is still very helpful. But it also explains the role a BFF can play. A BFF can help make the journey more palatable by providing emotional and tactical support. If you are the one getting the divorce, the author highly encourages you to read this first, but then pass it on to your BFF. Or, if you know someone getting a divorce, and you really want to help, share this book with them. As Victoria Vestuto journeyed with several friends down this road, they often found themselves confused and frustrated. Terms were thrown around by lawyers that they had no idea what they meant. Court dates were mandated and they often did not know why. This book was written to help someone have a smoother experience.

Primal Loss written by Leila Miller and has been published by Lcb Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-05-20 with Adult children of divorced parents categories.

Seventy now-adult children of divorce give their candid and often heart-wrenching answers to eight questions (arranged in eight chapters, by question), including: What were the main effects of your parents' divorce on your life? What do you say to those who claim that "children are resilient" and "children are happy when their parents are happy"? What would you like to tell your parents then and now? What do you want adults in our culture to know about divorce? What role has your faith played in your healing? Their simple and poignant responses are difficult to read and yet not without hope. Most of the contributors--women and men, young and old, single and married--have never spoken of the pain and consequences of their parents' divorce until now. They have often never been asked, and they believe that no one really wants to know. Despite vastly different circumstances and details, the similarities in their testimonies are striking; as the reader will discover, the death of a child's family impacts the human heart in universal ways.

Gray Divorce written by Jocelyn Crowley and has been published by Univ of California Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-01-23 with FAMILY & RELATIONSHIPS categories.

After twenty, thirty, or even forty years of marriage, countless vacations together, raising well-adjusted children, and sharing property and finances—what could go wrong? Gray Divorce offers a provocative look at the growing rate of marital splits after the age of 50, showcasing the voices of men and women who are considering, going through, or have undergone one. With empathy and insight, Jocelyn Crowley, who has written widely on family issues, uncovers the reasons for why men and women divorce—and the penalties and benefits that each pay for their choice. From the outside, many may ask why couples in mid-life and readying for retirement choose to make a drastic change in their marital status. Yet nearly 1 out of every 4 divorces is “gray.” Crowley sheds light on why divorce occurs—seeing marriage in a different lens, understanding the seismic shift in individual priorities, and the impact of the increase in life expectancy. With a deft eye, she analyzes the experiences of women and men as they go through this life transition—specifically how women are affected economically while men are affected socially. With a realistic yet passionate voice, Crowley shares the personal positive outlooks and the necessary supportive public policies that must take place to best help new divorcees. Engaging and instructive, Gray Divorce is a must-read for anyone interested in contemporary American culture.

Understanding The Divorce Cycle written by Nicholas H. Wolfinger and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-06-06 with Social Science categories.

Growing up in a divorced family leads to a variety of difficulties for adult offspring in their own partnerships. One of the best known and most powerful is the divorce cycle, the transmission of divorce from one generation to the next. This book examines how the divorce cycle has transformed family life in contemporary America by drawing on two national data sets. Compared to people from intact families, the children of divorce are more likely to marry as teenagers, but less likely to wed overall, more likely to marry people from divorced families, more likely to dissolve second and third marriages, and less likely to marry their live-in partners. Yet some of the adverse consequences of parental divorce have abated even as divorce itself proliferated and became more socially accepted. Taken together, these findings show how parental divorce is a strong force in people's lives and society as a whole.

This completely revised and updated fifth edition of the award-winning Divorce with Decency includes the most current research, statistics, and insights on the effects of divorce on spouses, their children, and society overall. Written by a prominent divorce lawyer with four decades of experience, it is the most comprehensive treatment of the legal, emotional, economic, psychological, and social aspects of romantic relationships, marriage and divorce available anywhere in a single volume. Initial sections look at the dynamics of divorce: the causal factors, the common “stages” from initial separation onward, and the complications surrounding each stage for older and younger couples and children. Important information on spouse abuse is also included. The book discusses key criteria in selecting an attorney and gives expert advice on directing and monitoring the course of a case efficiently and economically. Detailed background on critical legal issues is given, followed by case histories highlighting key points of divorce law. Extensive new sections have been added to this edition which provide key tips on preserving, improving, and possibly “saving” marriages. Key chapters focus on post-divorce issues of single parenthood and new relationships; as well as the rapidly changing nature of love, romance, “digital dating,” and other topics in this modern New Millennium. Informative yet highly readable (and occasionally amusing), Divorce with Decency has proven to be indispensable to anyone involved in a divorce, whether directly or indirectly.

If you are a woman going through a tough time, there are plenty of places you can go to for support. There are books, workshops and groups, both on and offline, where you can get the support you need to help you through ... but you're not a woman, you're a man and, as men, we are largely forgotten when it comes to getting help during difficult times. The common misconception is that because we are men, we're not in touch with our emotions. We are the stronger sex, the cavemen, the warriors, the conquerors and heroes, and so it's assumed that we don't need comfort and support and we can just tough it out. But if you're a man going through a divorce, then you know none of that is true because what you're most likely feeling is devastation. The effects of divorce are shown to be worse on the physical and mental health of a man than they are for a woman, and that is a proven fact. A man feels the weight of responsibility deeply. It is in his psyche and it acts like a switch clicking on as he grows, finds a mate, and builds a family. That feeling of responsibility for earning and providing security for his family is primal stuff and the fear of not being able to deliver it is very real. If you're going through a divorce, or you're about to, this is all brought into the open and those feelings are poked and challenged, adding to the lack of control you may be feeling already. This is not my antagonistic view and it's never about us v them, it's about this ... happy confident men and boys' equal happy confident women and girls, and we all need to do our bit to promote that. In the beginning you will feel upset. Divorce is a loss and any loss is sad. You're losing your wife, your family and your whole way of life and this can have a devastating effect on how you see yourself now. It can also seriously affect your ego. Learning to deal with these feelings is important but, even in this day and age when you hear or see articles and information around the after-effects of divorce, the focus is mainly on the women and us men go unnoticed. But don't forget that marriage is a commitment made by two people and they are both responsible for it. There are some options for men out there already, but we're going through a bit of a movement with these things and those groups tend to be run by enlightened men. This makes them all a bit hippy and a bit let's go out into the woods in stripy trousers and bang a bongo. That's not going to work for the ordinary bloke like me and you, and he is not going to don a pair of multi-coloured calf huggers for anyone. The fact is, as a man, you will have to learn how to handle these feelings while at the same time leading your family through the divorce without the breakdown of those relationships. Without the drama and trauma that can affect you, your ex, and your kids for decades to come, if it's not handled properly. This is about stepping into your masculine energy and taking the lead in your divorce for the wellbeing of everyone involved. The ordinary bloke gets that, which is why this book is for him.

With the exception of the loss of a child or someone very close, divorce is often the most difficult experience anyone will have to negotiate in his or her life. But what turns it into the tragedy that it so often becomes is the legal nonsense that they will be exposed to when they turn to divorce lawyers. Divorce lawyers don’t help. They only make things worse. That, unfortunately, has been the sad legacy that our adversarial legal system has bequeathed to divorcing husbands and wives. But it doesn’t have to be that way. And it doesn’t have to drag out for years or cost a king’s ransom. A lawyer is not just an advocate—someone who uses the law as a weapon in a legal tug of war the object of which is simply to get as much as you can and to give as little as you have to. As this book argues, a lawyer is also a counselor at law—someone who will use the law as a common framework that divorcing husbands and wives can look to in their effort to conclude an agreement. There is a name for this. It is called divorce mediation and it doesn’t take forever or cost a king’s ransom.
