There is a little boy named Mac, who had a best friend named Furry, the penguin. Furry is Mac's Emotional Support Partner Stuffie. Mac has many challenges, and with Furry, they go everywhere and do everything together. How that came to be was 'just' another story. Furry, The Little Penguins That Could. Mac had learned that a 'Stuffie' friend was just what he needed to help him through the 'tough stuff' of living with his disabilities. Furry helps him when he can't talk, to steady his arms to walk or roll. To calm him when he's anxious or frustrated, when he struggles with NEW, or just too much! Or when he is scared. Mac's Mom, teachers, and friends saw the difference the little stuffed penguin made in his life, and soon other children found some of the same love and hugs with their Furry. That gave Mom another idea. We could write a story to help other children. The idea for "Furry, The Little Penguins That Care" was born. A book to help children cope with the range of emotions children go through each day and how they can share their lives with their own Emotional Support Partner Stuffie. You know 'Stuffies' can become REAL in the hearts of children and the adults who believe. One day, Mac and his little penguin named Furry had a wish to get Furrys to children around the globe who are sad or scared or just needed a friend to go on adventures with. And that is a whole lot of Furry. But Mac knew that helping others was important. Mac had traveled the world wearing his little Red Shoes, raising awareness about Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, one of his many diagnoses, and even in Antarctica, he could educate others. He knew that miracles are possible. He was on his iPad when he learned that Countrytime, Lemonade asked kids to do a project, and they would donate money to do so. Mac wrote a letter using his talker and with his computer to tell Countrytime about his project. Mac likes writing letters to companies to advocate for kids like him. He started a virtual lemonade stand to raise money to buy Furry the Penguins to put into police officer vehicles to give to kids in traumatizing situations. He sold his lemonade for just 5 cents, and one person bought 300 glasses in one day. That let him buy two whole Furry the Penguins to give to two hurting children. More people bought lemonade, and Mom added her pretend gluten-free cookies for 10 cents. His teacher Mrs. C with Mac's help had been stuffing Trauma bags for our local hospital, giving children a new Furry and a book to read while at the hospital. The Furry Project had been launched. But he can help more children and get a whole lot of Furry the Penguins. By buying this book will help him Stuff Furry Emotional Support Partner bags in trunks of police cars, trunks of social workers who help children in foster care where he used to live, and for children who are sick or have surgeries as he has had, or for kids who have lost someone they love. Police officers and others have told us the Furrys magic works. To learn more about "The Furry Project," visit www.furrythepenguin.com.

The Magic Mystery Of Birds written by Noah Strycker and has been published by Souvenir Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-09-01 with Nature categories.

From the life-long relationships of the albatross to the remarkable memory of the nutcracker and other avian mysteries, Noah Strycker illuminates the startlingly intimate coexistence of birds and humans. "In almost any realm of bird behaviour - reproduction, populations, movements, daily rhythms, communication, navigation, intelligence, and so on - there are deep and meaningful parallels with our own." Noah Strycker has spent the last decade studying bird behaviour in some of the world's remotest places - from a penguin colony in Antarctica, the Falkland Islands, the Australian outback, the Galápagos Islands - and has observed almost 2,500 species of birds. Noah has come to understand that birds are lively, unpredictable individuals loaded with personality and, if you look closely enough, birds have human counterparts. From the homing instinct of pigeons (and the mystery of the pigeon equivalent of the Bermuda Triangle in eastern England) and testing the turkey vulture's sense of smell with a deer carcass to the reason behind a penguin's fear of water, we ultimately learn about ourselves by studying birds. Drawing on cutting-edge scientific research, along with his personal experience, and colourful anecdotes The Magic and Mystery of Birds is a thoughtful and engaging look at how the life of birds connects with humanity. In an entertaining and perceptive account of the lives of birds, from watching penguins in Antarctica to testing turkey vultures' sense of smell, Noah Strycker illuminates the surprising world of birds and their secret life.In observing birds' intelligence and their emotional, even artistic, life scientists have unlocked fascinating insights into memory, game theory and the nature of intelligence itself. They explore what birds can teach us about humanity. Drawing on cutting-edge scientific research, along with his personal experience (Strycker has travelled all over the world birdwatching) with colourful anecdotes about the intimate co-existence of birds and man The Magic and Mystery of Birdsis a thoughtful and engaging look at how we often view the world through the experience of birds."Noah Strycker's illuminating - and, actually, rather moving - new book is a welcome reminder that we have much more to learn from the animal kingdom than we can even begin to know. Asking searching questions about why birds behave as they do, he offers poetic insights into our own existence... And what he has to tell us is fascinating." - Daily Mail"This beautifully written book is a treasure trove of information on the avian world, from the life-long relationship of the albatross to the remarkable memory of the nutcracker." - BBC Countryfile"An account of the lives of birds, and draws intriguing parallels with our own world, as well as possible lessons we can learn from our feathered friends." - Choice Noah Strycker has spent the last decade studying bird behaviour in some of the world's remotest places - from a penguin colony in Antarctica, the Falkland Islands, the Australian outback, the Galápagos Islands - and has observed almost 2,500 species of birds. Centuries ago, when penguins were first encountered by European explorers, they were not thought to be birds but rather a fish-like relative. Subsequent accumulation of knowledge has shown penguins to be an avian species with unrivaled aquatic attributes, owing to a number of evolutionary adaptations: shape change, low drag, ability to regulate buoyancy, and extraordinary surface compliancy from their featheration. They are indeed the most extremely specialized diving bird, having given up flight (which otherwise is hugely advantageous) to the benefit of underwater prowess (such as speed, maneuverability and an ability to exploit an extraordinary range of depths). This flightlessness, however, also comes with costs that are substantial for a seabird (such as the inability to cover large distances quickly in reaction to ephemeral prey); and the energy needed to cope with moving through an aqueous environment, which is more resistant than air. For penguins, the high energetic costs in exploiting the ocean environment thus makes them especially sensitive to changes in food availability or their access to their prey. While a number of “penguin books” cover the natural history, mainly of breeding aspects, few address in much detail the incredible aquatic nature of these creatures. A huge amount of information has been amassed over recent past decades thanks to dramatic advances in microelectronics, bio-logging and maturation of some long-term studies of penguin life history. This work represents an integration of all these data with charts, maps and graphs, along with richly illustrated photos by experts in the field.

Mixed Feelings written by Marion Ledwig and has been published by Walter de Gruyter this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-05-02 with Philosophy categories.

This book opens up a new area of research by not only considering the rationality of such diverse phenomena as ordinary emotions, generalized anxiety disorder, social phobia, psychotic depression, major depressive disorder, and bipolar disorder, but also by evaluating the question whether the vagueness of these diverse disorders and emotions poses an obstacle to the rationality of these phenomena. As these emotional phenomena turn out to be vague on many different levels, an explanation is found for the millennia long dispute of which kind of phenomena fall under the emotions and whether such diverse phenomena as hope and alexithymia fall under the emotions. Since vagueness can be most easily identified in mixed feelings, the rationality of mixed feelings will also be dealt with.

A seminal exploration of animal emotion, sentience, and cognition, revised and expanded to incorporate a surge of new science When award-winning scientist Marc Bekoff penned the first edition of this book in 2007, he predicted that over time our understanding of animal cognition and emotion would grow “richer, more accurate, and possibly different.” Since then, not only has the field seen an explosion of new and startling research, but the popular interest in the subject has grown as well, spawning countless podcasts, articles, and bestselling books. Bekoff skillfully blends extraordinary stories of animal joy, empathy, grief, embarrassment, anger, and love with the latest scientific research confirming the existence of emotions that common sense and experience have long implied. Filled with light humor and compassion, The Emotional Lives of Animals is a clarion call for reassessing both how we view and how we treat animals.
