The Workshop was held to review progress and problems in post-harvest fish utilization in Africa and formulate recommendations to FAO, its member countries and all institutes, institutions and persons interested in fish utilization in Africa. The experts reviewed in particular fresh fish utilization, fish processing, quality assurance, and marketing and socio-economic issues. The review was done through presentation by the secretariat of a report on progress and events since the Consultation in Fish Technology held in 2001, presentation of 26 papers, abstracts of two additional papers, and a field trip to the Mbegani Fisheries Development Centre, a fish market and a processing unit in Dar es Salaam. The report includes the recommendations as well as the papers that were available to the experts. - L'atelier a ete organise pour passer en revue les progres et problemes dans l'utilisation du poisson apres capture en Afrique, et formuler des recommandations a la FAO, a ses pays membres et a tous les instituts, institutions et personnes interesses par l'utilisation du poisson en Afrique. Les experts ont examine notamment l'utilisation du poisson frais, la transformation du poisson, l'assurance de qualite, la commercialisation et les questions socioeconomiques. Cet examen s'est effectue a travers la presentation, par le secretariat, du rapport sur les progres et evenements depuis la Consultation d'experts FAO sur la technologie du poisson en Afrique qui s'est tenue en 2001, des presentations de 26 communications, des resumes de deux contributions supplementaires, et une visite de terrain au Mbegani Fisheries Development Centre, au marche au poisson et dans une unite de transformation de poisson a Dar es Salaam. Le rapport inclut les recommandations de meme que les communications qui etaient a la disposition des experts."

The Group assessed the status of the small pelagic resources in Northwest Africa and make projections on the development of the status of the stocks and on future effort and catch levels. As a precautionary measure, the catch level for this species should not exceed the average over the last three years of 115 000 tonnes. For bonga, the recommendation from 2006 is maintained as no new information is available on this species, and the Working Group recommended that the catch level should not exceed 42 000 tonnes. - Le Groupe a examine l'etat actuel des ressources de petits pelagiques en Afrique nord occidentale en fait des projections sur le developpement, l'effort futur et les niveaux de capture. Comme mesure de precaution, le niveau de capture pour cette espece ne devrait pas depasser la moyenne de 115 000 tonnes des trois dernieres annees. Pour l'ethmalose, la recommandation de 2006 est maintenue car aucune information nouvelle n'est disponible pour cette espece et le Groupe de travail a recommande que le niveau de capture ne depasse pas 42 000 tonnes"

This evaluation had the purpose of assessing the performance and added value of the FAO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (RLC), taking into account the role of the regional initiatives as mechanisms to facilitate such work. It was found that the support provided, especially for the escalation of results, has been substantive and useful, however, there is no institutional strategy that promotes the identification of factors that promote upscaling of programmes based on organizational learning. Recommendations were drawn up to improve the relevance of the work around the regional initiatives, as well as to promote the scaling up of programmes, the implementation of policies for the inclusion of gender perspectives and of indigenous, Afrodescendant and tribal peoples, the generation and use of evidence as a basis for decision-making, and to address the new context derived from COVID-19.

The FAO/CECAF Working Group for artisanal fisheries was created during the fifteenth session of the Fishery Committee for the Eastern Central Atlantic (CECAF) which was held in Abuja, Nigeria, from 1 to 3 November 2000. This document reports on the fifth meeting of Working Group for artisanal fisheries, which was organized in Dakar, Sénégal from 26 to 27 July 2018. The overall objective of the Working Group is to improve regional artisanal fisheries knowledge of CECAF Member Countries. The Working Group was organized by FAO headquarters, in close collaboration with the FAO Regional Office for Africa. Le groupe de travail FAO / COPACE sur les pêches artisanales a été créé à la quinzième session du Comité des pêches pour l’Atlantique Centre-Est (COPACE) qui s’est tenu à Abuja, Nigéria du 1er au 3 novembre 2000. Ce document rend compte de la cinquième réunion du Groupe de travail sur la pêche artisanale organisé à Dakar, Sénégal du 26 au 27 juillet 2018. L’objectif général du groupe de travail est d’améliorer les connaissances régionales sur la pêche artisanale des pays membres du COPACE. Le groupe de travail a été organisé par le siège de la FAO, en étroite collaboration avec le Bureau régional de la FAO pour l'Afrique.
