"How have French Jewish women reacted to the great traumas of the last century - the Holocaust, North African decolonization and the resulting migration of African Jews to France, the Arab-Israeli crisis and the aftermath of 9/11? Cairns's major new volume identifies the themes of books by French Jewish women from 1945 to the present day, gauging to what extent they are dominated by, informed by, or relatively indifferent to these threatening events. Thirty authors in particular serve as representatives of a great, and greatly diverse, pool: divided not only as Ashkenazim or Sephardim, but by origins scattered across Algeria, Egypt, Germany, Hungary, Morocco, Poland, Romania, Russia, Tunisia, and Turkey. Theirs is a transnational, doubly-diasporic, and thus particularly complex paradigm in which feminism, loyalty to family culture and to the traditions of Judaism often exists in tension with French Republican models of assimilation, non-differentiation, and gender-blindness. Lucille Cairns is Professor of French Literature at the University of Durham."

This book draws on theories of second language acquisition (SLA) to illustrate how interactive white board technology can be exploited to support language acquisition. It examines interaction, collaboration and negotiation of meaning and focus on form in the communicative language classroom in primary, secondary and vocational schools. In recent years new technologies have been incorporated into second and foreign language education as tools for implementing teaching methodologies. IWBs have established their role in the field of computer-assisted language learning (CALL) and are an effective and inspiring tool which motivates both teachers and learners. Although the number of IWBs in classrooms has rapidly increased over the past decade in many parts of the world, teacher training materials and pedagogical support for the design, evaluation and implementation of IWB-based materials in the foreign language classroom has not kept pace. Research also shows that language teachers do not always use IWBs in pedagogically sound ways. There is a real need for the development of training models and examples of good practice which can support teachers in developing the necessary competencies for exploiting the IWB in ways consistent with current theories of language teaching pedagogy. This book provides that best practice and gives a full account of in-depth research in an accessible manner.

See below for English description. » In his signature playful style, Todd Parr empowers kids to face their fears and say, "I'm not scared." Mais je n'ai pas peur quand je vois le monde d'en haut. » At the end, Todd reassures children with this heartwarming note: "Sometimes, we are scared of things because we don't understand them. When you are afraid, tell someone why and maybe you won't be scared anymore." Original title: The I'm Not Scared Book

The Phonetic Guide To French written by Matthew Lawry and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-04-05 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

This book is about learning the phrases and sentences and getting to grips with saying the language, without going into the grammar first. In that way you can have fun in learning how to say certain things and also you do not come up against stumbling blocks and frustrations. The idea behind this thinking was because when I was a child my parents used to tell me words before they taught me how to do the alphabet, so I thought that was a better way round; get used to the language first. I wrote this book to how I thought the student of the language could assimilate and understand it and get a basic grounding of the language. I thought to myself, what was the best thing to learn first, for instance; what the difference between masculine and feminine; what does the accent mean, so I put this information in the chapter header pages so then I could use more space to actually learning the language. I have also put in a conceptual stage so then you can think about the language for instance. English has quite a few routes to it, like Latin; so quite a few words are very similar, even though the accent can throw us off. It sounds like proper English for instance; catgorie which means category in French which is nearly the same in English. I believe there is no right or wrong way to learn; it depends on what you want it for; you may want to practise it on holiday or you may want to read the French newspapers, so sometimes you do not necessarily have to learn the alphabet or the grammar. I like to read newspapers on holiday and watch films in French; that is why I wanted to learn it. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I have in writing it.

For perhaps the first time in novel form, Benevolence presents an important era in Australia’s history from an Aboriginal perspective. Benevolence is told from the perspective of Darug woman, Muraging (Mary James), born around 1813. Mary’s was one of the earliest Darug generations to experience the impact of British colonisation. At an early age Muraging is given over to the Parramatta Native School by her Darug father. From here she embarks on a journey of discovery and a search for a safe place to make her home. The novel spans the years 1816-35 and is set around the Hawkesbury River area, the home of the Darug people, Parramatta and Sydney. The author interweaves historical events and characters — she shatters stereotypes and puts a human face to this Aboriginal perspective.

Split constructions are very widespread in natural languages. The separation of the semantic restriction of a quantifier from that quantifier is a typical example of such a construction. This study addresses the problem that such discontinuous strings exhibit a number of locality constraints, including intervention effects. These are shown to follow from the interaction of a minimalist syntax with a semantics that directly assigns a model-theoretic interpretation to syntactic logical forms. The approach is shown to have wide empirical coverage and a conceptual simplicity. The book will be of interest to scholars and advanced students of syntax and semantics.

Doctor Sax written by Jack Kerouac and has been published by Penguin UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-05-03 with Fiction categories.

Jack Kerouac called Doctor Sax, the enigmatic figure who haunted his boyhood imagination, 'my ghost, personal angel, private shadow, secret lover'. In this extraordinary autobiographical account of growing up in Lowell, Massachussetts, told through his fictional alter ego Jack Duluoz, he mingles real people and events with fantastical figures to capture the accents, scents, sights and texture of his childhood: playing among the river weeds and railroad tracks, going to church, witnessing life and death on the street corners. Written when he was staying with William Burroughs in Mexico in 1952, Doctor Sax was Kerouac's favourite of all his books: a dark, vivid and magical evocation of a boy's vibrant inner life.
