Law And Film written by Vittoria Becci and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-12-31 with Law categories.
This book explores how law can be understood through film by engaging creatively with the intellectual and aesthetic dimensions of both fields. The contributors to this book consider the need to turn to film and what this means for how we come to understand law and its absences. The chapters explore a variety of narratives, aesthetics, cinematic epistemologies and legal phenomena; from assessing law in social debates to film as legal critique, from notions of justice to contemplations on evil, and from masculine vigilantism to radical feminism. Taken together, they constitute an inspiring body of work that embodies an urgency for diverse and subversive ways to challenge law’s formalism and authority; and to think about and respond variously to law’s impotence, its disappointment, or its boredom. This book will appeal to legal scholars and students in law and the humanities, especially those with interests in aesthetics, law and literature, law and culture, law and society, and critical legal theory.

'Knowledge-First' constitutes what is widely regarded as one of the most significant innovations in contemporary epistemology in the past 25 years. Knowledge-first epistemology is the idea that knowledge per se should not be analysed in terms of its constituent parts (e.g., justification, belief), but rather that these and other notions should be analysed in terms of the concept of knowledge. This volume features a substantive introduction and 13 original essaysfrom leading and up-and-coming philosophers on the topic of knowledge-first philosophy. The contributors' essays range from foundational issues to applications of this project to other disciplinesincluding the philosophy of mind, the philosophy of perception, ethics and action theory. Knowledge First: Approaches in Epistemology and Mind aims to provide a relatively open-ended forum for creative and original scholarship with the potential to contribute and advance debates connected with this philosophical project.

Instant Recovery With Write Ahead Logging written by Goetz Graefe and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-11-10 with Computers categories.
Traditional theory and practice of write-ahead logging and of database recovery techniques revolve around three failure classes: transaction failures resolved by rollback; system failures (typically software faults) resolved by restart with log analysis, “redo,” and “undo” phases; and media failures (typically hardware faults) resolved by restore operations that combine multiple types of backups and log replay. The recent addition of single-page failures and single-page recovery has opened new opportunities far beyond its original aim of immediate, lossless repair of single-page wear-out in novel or traditional storage hardware. In the contexts of system and media failures, efficient single-page recovery enables on-demand incremental “redo” and “undo” as part of system restart or media restore operations. This can give the illusion of practically instantaneous restart and restore: instant restart permits processing new queries and updates seconds after system reboot and instant restorepermits resuming queries and updates on empty replacement media as if those were already fully recovered. In addition to these instant recovery techniques, the discussion introduces much faster offline restore operations without slowdown in backup operations and with hardly any slowdown in log archiving operations. The new restore techniques also render differential and incremental backups obsolete, complete backup commands on the database server practically instantly, and even permit taking full backups without imposing any load on the database server. Table of Contents: Preface / Acknowledgments / Introduction / Related Prior Work / Single-Page Recovery / Applications of Single-Page Recovery / Instant Restart after a System Failure / Single-Pass Restore / Applications of Single-Pass Restore / Instant Restore after a Media Failure / Multiple Failures / Conclusions / References / Author Biographies

Ninja Hacking written by Thomas Wilhelm and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-11-02 with Computers categories.
Ninja Hacking offers insight on how to conduct unorthodox attacks on computing networks, using disguise, espionage, stealth, and concealment. This book blends the ancient practices of Japanese ninjas, in particular the historical Ninjutsu techniques, with the present hacking methodologies. It looks at the methods used by malicious attackers in real-world situations and details unorthodox penetration testing techniques by getting inside the mind of a ninja. It also expands upon current penetration testing methodologies including new tactics for hardware and physical attacks. This book is organized into 17 chapters. The first two chapters incorporate the historical ninja into the modern hackers. The white-hat hackers are differentiated from the black-hat hackers. The function gaps between them are identified. The next chapters explore strategies and tactics using knowledge acquired from Sun Tzu's The Art of War applied to a ninja hacking project. The use of disguise, impersonation, and infiltration in hacking is then discussed. Other chapters cover stealth, entering methods, espionage using concealment devices, covert listening devices, intelligence gathering and interrogation, surveillance, and sabotage. The book concludes by presenting ways to hide the attack locations and activities. This book will be of great value not only to penetration testers and security professionals, but also to network and system administrators as well as hackers. - Discusses techniques used by malicious attackers in real-world situations - Details unorthodox penetration testing techniques by getting inside the mind of a ninja - Expands upon current penetration testing methodologies including new tactics for hardware and physical attacks
