La dimensione eccezionale dei terremoti che hanno recentemente squassato e continuano a colpire i centri urbani e i borghi del cosiddetto ‘cratere’, ci spingono a ripensare il tema della ricostruzione del patrimonio edilizio storico, specialmente nel caso degli insediamenti praticamente rasi al suolo, che rischiano l’abbandono da parte delle comunità in favore di nuove collocazioni territoriali. Il primo interrogativo che ci si pone riguarda l’aggregato urbano: come affrontarne la ricostruzione? Il secondo interrogativo riguarda le modalità costruttive necessarie a rimettere in sicurezza i fabbricati. Nella giornata di lavoro questi temi sono stati affrontati da rappresentanti delle istituzioni coinvolte nella gestione dei terremoti, della tutela, da rappresentanti delle università, delle imprese di restauro e dei professionisti che partecipano alla ricostruzione.

I numerosi eventi sismici che si sono verificati sul nostro territorio (soprattutto i più recenti) hanno messo in evidenza che la nazione è ad altissimo rischio sismico. Nonostante ciò, la popolazione ha livelli di informazione estremamente bassi, non sa come comportarsi in occasione del verificarsi degli eventi, né prima né durante né dopo. In Italia la sopravvivenza ai terremoti è spesso una questione legata al caso: chi si trova in circostanze fortunate riesce a mettersi in salvo. Sostanzialmente, l’obbiettivo del testo è quello di informare su come difendersi dal terremoto attraverso la prevenzione, e sui comportamenti da assumere durante l’evento e lo stato di emergenza. Ci si augura che una maggiore informazione possa, con il passare degli anni, aiutare a rendere i terremoti sempre meno distruttivi fino a diventare – ove possibile – innocui, come succede in molti altri Stati ugualmente sismici, come Stati Uniti, Giappone, Canada, ecc., dove si è capito che si deve imparare a convivere con i terremoti se vogliamo difenderci. La non informazione non fa altro che alimentarne la potenza distruttrice.

"Every year between 250 000 and 500 000 people suffer a spinal cord injury, with road traffic crashes, falls and violence as the three leading causes. People with spinal cord injury are two to five times more likely to die prematurely. They also have lower rates of school enrollment and economic participation than people without such injuries. Spinal cord injury has costly consequences for the individual and society, but it is preventable, survivable and need not preclude good health and social inclusion. Ensuring an adequate medical and rehabilitation response, followed by supportive services and accessible environments, can help minimize the disruption to people with spinal cord injury and their families.
